Taliban: 500 Suicide Bombers Ready to Attack

In a rare interview, the Taliban's top military commander told ABC News he has 500 suicide bombers at his disposal and could launch them at any time.

Speaking by satellite telephone from an undisclosed location, Mulla Dadullah Akhund told ABC News the suicide bombers will target Kabul, the capital, because it is the headquarters for U.S. and NATO forces.

"They attacked us. We didn't go to the U.S. to fight them. We are fighting for our religion and homeland," he said.

Mulla Dadullah, who lost a leg in earlier fighting, said he also commanded 12,000 Taliban fighters, which he claimed were actively engaging U.S.-led forces in four southwestern Afghan provinces.

3. hyperbole & bravado
mullah dadullah is a pretty funny name.

But "They attacked us. We didn't go to the U.S. to fight them. We are fighting for our religion and homeland," - poor fool thinks Americans can draw a distinction between Al Qaeda & the Taliban? go ask John Walker Lindh about that.

5. We should have done them a favor...
when all of those Taliban were lined up for the funeral last week. Some think it was suicide for that many Taliban to stand next to one another like that. One hellfire missle would have accomplished the task for them. Oh well, maybe next time.

We should concentrate our efforts on Afghanistan. That would have gone a long way in getting our troops home quicker.

6. I have a policy of not supporting attacks on funerals
Besides, it might have been a setup - no Taliban, lots of innocents.

21. No question that attacking a funeral would have been a BAD move
Regardless of the targets, hitting a funeral would have been a major PR fiasco.

7. Interesting quote
"They attacked us. We didn't go to the U.S. to fight them. We are fighting for our religion and homeland," he said."

so why are the repukes so hell bent on "fighten em over there, so we don't fight em over here" sounds to me like they don't even want to come over here.

15. not virgins exactly, and not humans
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Islam, the houri (Arabic حورية ḥūrīya, pl. ḥūrīyāt), or hour-ul-‘Ein, are described as "pure people of Paradise" awaiting devout Muslims. Though technically they are not human and are angels. The houri may have a connotation of gender but in Heaven the houri can be male or female since angels do not have genders. Therefore they are awarded to all people who enter Heaven.

12. The US military came up with 'proximity fuses' during WWII naval battles
Maybe someone could dream up some bomb sniffing preemptive device. Other than that, how on God's green earth does this madness serve Allah ?

14. Afghanistan is a guerrilla war
The war with Japan was conventional. There isn't really any comparison.

These suicide bombers seem pretty efficient actually - one took out four Canadian soldiers today. If they kept that up with even 50 of their suicide bombers (i.e. killed 200 Canadian troops that way), Canada would most likely pull out.

16. Most of them tend to detonate prematurely
or take out civilians. I'd say, from what I read in the papers, less that 1 in 4 actually injure/kill a NATO soldier.

But it is their best weapon. Neither guerrilla warfare or even semi-conventional warfare is working for them.

18. I don't know about the exact statistics
But even 1 in 4 working, taking out 4 troops gives a 1 to 1 ratio, which is very good for a technologically inferior guerrilla force. It also creates a well founded fear in the occupation troops of local citizens, which is also favorable to the local guerrilla force.

17. There's nothing conventional about crashing your plane into a ship
Or sending balloons with bombs on them across the ocean.

Or enslaving entire populations.

Or performing genocide.

Or fire-bombing entire cities.

Or using nuclear weapons.

"Conventional" warfare was over in 1914.

If they kept that up with even 50 of their suicide bombers (i.e. killed 200 Canadian troops that way), Canada would most likely pull out.

Canada isn't going to pull out.

19. The Canadian public won't stand for 100's of deaths
The current government will fall if that happens, in my opinion.

20. "They attacked us. We didn't go to the U.S. to fight them." He's right.
Waging war to end terrorism is ludicrous. We will be driven out like the Russians were.

We should have INVESTIGATED the crime of 9-11 to find out who did it and then launched an international team to find and arrest the culprits who planned the crime. My guess is they were in the White House and the surrounding area, but I could be wrong.
