Ohio Congressman (Bob Ney-R) Is Said to Agree to Plead Guilty
WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 — Representative Bob Ney, Republican of Ohio, has agreed to plead guilty to federal criminal charges related to his dealings with the corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff, lawyers and others with knowledge of the investigation said Thursday.

A guilty plea would make Mr. Ney, a six-term congressman, the first member of Congress to admit to criminal charges in the Abramoff investigation, which has focused on the actions of several current and former Republican lawmakers who had been close to the former lobbyist.

1. The sentence needs to be doubled due to all the trouble
he's caused, lying about his relationship to Abramoff, forcing us, through the FBI and other agencies, to investigate him and spend all that money.

The sentences for betraying public trust, ala "the dukestir," are way too lenient.

If they admitted and owned up to their indiscretions right away, then the basic sentence applies. If they jack us around, claiming innocence, when they damn well know better, calling us liars, insisting that they, themselves, are little godlets, incapable of the sin they are accused of and they know they did, then the sentence is doubled or tripled.

Also, all accumulated wealth should be forfeit and they should be publicly humiliated, weekly, as a cautionary tale for others.

2. And Wally O'Dell will want a cut of the action
Think of all the vote stealing code that has to be re-written at Diebold. I'm sure it will cost him money.

7. Oh, man -He won't be in court because he's in re-hab
snip>
People with detailed knowledge of the investigation said Mr. Ney had entered an in-patient rehabilitation center in recent days for treatment of alcoholism, making it uncertain whether he would appear at a court hearing to announce the plea. Lawyers and others would speak only anonymously because of concern they would anger prosecutors.

16. That is bullcrap!
I worked at residential treatment center and the residents had court dates all the time. They used to use the vans to get them over to the courthouse. Since when do residential rehab patients NOT have to attend their appointed court date/time? This is so much shit!

8. Remember Ney's response to the evoting petition that Doc Dean
sent to him, in order to try to get the Committee on House Admimistration to act on the Rush Holt Bill?

I do, so here's all I have to say about this: Fuck Robert Ney, he's a traitor to America, and he deserves to rot in prison.

17. Anyone have a compendium?
As I recall, Ney had many sneering things to say about the charges against him, and was quite indignant that anyone thought anything so picayune as the law should apply to his august personage. And now it looks like he's going to try the Michael Deaver route: I was so drunk, I didn't know what I was doing! Have mercy!

Yeah, that excuse flies really well for a bunch of guys in the cooler, convicted of various forms of personal mayhem up to and including murder. Ney's crime is an exquisite betrayal of the public trust. In a time of war. What if terrorists had gotten the goods on him and blackmailed Mr. Ney? He could have handed the keys to Congress directly to Osama bin Laden!

Only one solution: Vote Democratic in November.

24. Beautiful!
"an exquisite betrayal of the public trust"

Your command of descriptive language is' indeed, exquisite.

Should be on a huge billboard, right on the Ohio state line, at every entrance. The poor, benighted folks in Ohio have been patient beyond the call.

28. Bob "Rug Boy" Ney, one of the Washington "hair helmet" squad
today agreed to spend a few months at the Federal Correctional facility in Vacationville, Pennsylvania due to his acceptance of "a few bucks" from some stranger he didn't know at all.
Rug Boy, commenting about his conviction, stated only that his wrists hurt from the slapping, and hoped he could tune up his tennis swing while he takes his vacation.
