A deep, gravelly voice familiar to many Puget Sound-area radio listeners resonated through a King County courtroom Wednesday as former liberal talk-show host Mike Webb took the stand to defend himself against charges that he made a fraudulent insurance claim.
Webb worked for KIRO-AM (710) radio for 10 years and hosted a late-night show before he was fired weeks after being charged in December with the felony. If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail and $10,000 in fines.
Testimony in Webb's trial concluded Wednesday after he took the stand as the defense's only witness. Jurors, who began deliberating Wednesday afternoon, must now sift through testimony from about a dozen car-insurance-company employees, bank statements and the explanations offered by Webb himself to determine whether the former radio personality is the unwitting victim of an Internet glitch or knowingly filed a false claim.
... Insurance and bank investigators testified this week that documents submitted by Webb, including bank statements that show payments to Geico for a policy on May 20 and June 7, and a Geico statement that shows he bought his policy before the accident, were forged.
