UN chief: U.S. can’t stay or leave Iraq
Most Mideast leaders think the U.S. involvement in Iraq has turned into "a real disaster" for them, the United Nations secretary-general said after touring the region.

And Kofi Annan said the United States now finds itself in a difficult position. “It cannot stay, and it cannot leave," he said.

Iran is among those offering to help the U.S. leave, he said although he refused to elaborate.

2. Once you "can't stay and can't leave"
It is usually best to leave.

3. His statement was really devasting.
But he was absolutely right on. Its a disaster - for everyone involved.

Now we are in a real mess. We can't leave because the death toll by the death squads would be enormous.

And our staying makes things worse.

This is turning out worse than I ever imagined - I imagined that it would be pretty bad.
