Qaida 'leader' claims beheading of Sudan editor
A man purporting to lead an African branch of al-Qaida claimed responsibility yesterday for the beheading of a Sudanese newspaper editor who was found dead last week.

The man, in a statement distributed to Sudanese newspapers, called editor Mohamed Taha a "dog of dogs from the ruling party", and accused him of insulting the prophet Mohammad.

The statement was signed by Abu Hafs al-Sudani, who said he was the leader of al-Qaida in Sudan and Africa.

Taha, an ally of the government who was himself an Islamist, was reported kidnapped from outside his home in the capital Khartoum a week ago, and was found dead last Wednesday.

2. What strikes me is how "beheadings" and "suicide bombings",....
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 01:29 AM by Just Me
,...seem somehow MORE savage than cluster bombs, bullets or chemical drops. Color me crazy but they all have the same results except the more advance stuff kills a helluva' lot more men, women and children AND literally INFECT the human population targeted,...literally, for generations.

 Which is more evil?

Good grief!!!!

3. The head chopping has immense propaganda value
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 01:52 AM by Psephos
It represents the ultimate humiliation that can be visited on a human body. Not in some abstract way, but in visceral, dripping-artery and shredded-tendon technicolor.

Many people are horrified to realize they feel an illicit sexual charge when they look at the internet videos (and then, to hide it, protest indignantly at the mere suggestion). That doesn't happen with cluster bomb drops. Too abstract.

No, if you really care to send the very best, grab a serrated butcher's knife, slash your victim's windpipe to hear the gurgling last breaths and whistling shrieks, then methodically saw through the neckbone joints to sever the spinal cord. Finally, place the head on the corpse's back and grab your webcam. See, this isn't a human, it's a slab of soon-to-be-fly-covered meat.

If all methods of death were equivalent, as you seem to have implied, then why don't the jihadis just poison their victims or kill them in their sleep with a quick bullet? Or, to recast that as a positive statement, why have they chosen beheading for the executions they most want to publicize?

I'm not disputing that dropping cluster bombs, et al., is evil, but you seem to not understand the deep emotional power of ritual methods of execution and the profound humiliation that results from using them.

Peace.

4. Great Post
While it is true that the RESULT is the same either way, I think it takes a special kind of monster to use his bare hands to slaughter another human being with a dull knife to the throat.

I'm sorry, no one will ever convince me that a bunch of hooded religious nuts cutting the throat of a bound and helpless victim on camera is equivalent of the bombing of a target in a military campaign (something that happened in every war since projectile weapons were invented).

Now, as for those fucking sick bastards that raped the Iraqi girl and killed her family. Well, they are actually WORSE than the beheaders.

5. This guy is in charge of this so-called Al-Qaeda in an entire continent.
When the next Al-Qaeda in Sudan dude takes over, does he get to be the leader of Africa as well?
