Colitis strikes Senate hopeful (Jack Carter)
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 03:50 PM by NVMojo
Democratic senatorial candidate Jack Carter was being treated for severe colitis in the intensive care unit of Summerlin Hospital Medical Center this weekend, his campaign press secretary said Sunday.

Carter, 59, has been hospitalized since Thursday, and his condition has stabilized, but he isn't expected to be discharged for a few more days because doctors are still monitoring his progress, Jimmy Carter said after standing in for his son at Freedom Park on Sunday afternoon.

"My wife and I were concerned about it yesterday, but he's making good progress, and all the doctors are giving us positive responses," the 81-year-old former president said.

He and his wife, Rosalynn, flew into Las Vegas on Sunday morning from their home in Plains, Ga.

Jack Carter began feeling ill on Sept. 3 and had canceled several campaign earlier this month, including a speaking engagement in Fallon, said Jay Jones, the candidate's press secretary.

5. Think higher
and even with as much morphine or meperidine as we can legally give, they scream with pain.

I'd like to know if he's had past problems with colitis. It just doesn't appear all of a sudden like this.

9. IBS on anabolic steroids, maybe
People having serious attacks are in agony.

It's no joke.

I knew someone who had a colectomy and colostomy in his 20s, those prime dating years. He said for him it was the best deal possible.

10. Yikes. IBS is bad enough.
I'm a long time sufferer of IBS, and sometimes the attacks are so painful that I can't imagine pain any worse. Labor was less painful.

11. My daughter has been suffering from IBS for years
I feel for you. There is a treatment some doctors are using. Let me preface this by letting you know a little known fact: people in the sub-Sahara do not suffer from IRB at all. The reason is they have, in their gut, a worm (I think) that keeps them from developing IRB. They have had success in treating IRB here with the eggs of that worm, that hatch in the gut and within a few weeks are expelled with the rest of the waste.
I'm probably way off in explaining this treatment, but its worth a try if someone has it really bad.

12. too many people say "it can never happen to me!"
hang in there. this will make life tough for Carter, but IMO it will also make him far more passionate in this campaign.

2. Just noticed CLINTON is coming to Nevada for Jack!!! YAY!!
snip...

The former president also said he didn't think that his son's hospitalization will affect the campaign because the growing unpopularity of President Bush has made all Republican incumbents vulnerable, and Jack Carter already had done substantial campaigning in Nevada's rural areas on the advice of former President Clinton.

Clinton is scheduled to come to Nevada and campaign on Jack Carter's behalf.
