Graham: U.S. "screwed up" in Iraq
Associated Press

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sen. Lindsey Graham said the United States has "screwed up" in Iraq but that the fundamental idea of the war was still correct.

"I know Iraq is a mess and we have screwed up seven ways from Sunday," the South Carolina Republican told about 300 people at the College of Charleston on Sunday, the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We underestimated how hard it would be. But the fundamental idea behind Iraq is still correct," said Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"If we back out of this fight ... your children and grandchildren will never know peace," Graham warned.

. . . because otherwise, all the pain we've endured will have been for nothing."

2. So is the GOP tactic on the Iraq question?
Admit that the job wasn't well handled but insist that it was a job that had to be done?

"We made mistakes in the details, but we're still right and still the only ones who can save you."

Still fear-mongering, still lying, still posturing as the saviors of the world.

3. utter shite
YOU underestimated. i didn't. there's no "WE" involved.

the fundamental idea is to take people who already blame us for their poverty & cultural humiliation, and convert them to democracy at gunpoint.

that is not a fundamentally correct idea, and if our grandchildren 'never know peace', it will be because of the GOP.

4. The war was, is, and will always be unwinnable
the only question is: how many people must die before you face up to that fact, Lindsey? :eyes:

6. "(WE) underestimated how hard it would be?
Wanna get more specific you whore? General Shinseki strongly advised but what did bush, with your support do lindsay? He fired the General.

The jerkoffs in the bush administration and the PNAC did the underestimating, us liberals voiced our objections and were shouted down by morons who vote for people like you lindsay.

The republican party is responsible for the debacle in Iraq lindsay. Say it, except responsibility, you will feel much better.

7. I guess Graham never heard the saying, "When you're in a hole...
stop digging! If he did...he buried it as deep in the hole he's digging.

11. Graham believes in the mystique of the school-yard bully
We had to attack someone to look so impressively strong that further attacks. Unfortunately, the events in Iraq have demonstrated just the opposite. Rummy and company have demonstrated the US is not impressively strong, the civiliam leadership of our military is bumbling and incompetent. And that invites future attacks.

8. "Your children and grandchildren will never know peace"
Is that a threat, Mr. Graham? Are you saying that if the American people reject you and your misguided war, we'll never know peace? Is that because you and your incompetent, sore-loser GOP cohort will forever fight and re-fight this losing proposition for the next three generations? Is that what you're saying?

12. If Miss Graham had any children or grandchildren
maybe she wouldn't have been so cavalier about bending over for Bush to get his war on.

13. What fundamental idea?
They seemed to have gone to Iraq just because they could, just to fuck shit up and throw raw meat to their psychotic base. What was this supposed idea? They didn't even come up with the ludicrous democracy in the mideast angle until we'd already been there for a year.

14. They wanted to establish the facts on the ground in their favor
They had to blitzkrieg public opinion into supporting the war, so they could then blitzkrieg Iraq. Now "facts on the ground" are "in their favor" - we obviously have to do something! But we couldn't possibly Leave! I guess it's just more Iraqi civilians into the meatgrinder... :banghead:
