Bush Confident GOP Will Hold Congress
President Bush says he believes Republicans will retain control of the Congress after the November elections, even as members of his own party predict a loss of some seats.

Dismissing the possibility the top House Democrat, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, could rise to House speaker if the GOP lost its majority, the president said, 'That's not going to happen.'

Democrats need to gain six seats in the Senate and 15 in the House to gain control.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal's editorial page editor, Bush was commenting on how he planned to resurrect his push to change Social Security next year when he was reminded that some polls show Democrats were likely to win control of at least the House.

'I just don't believe it,' the president told Paul Gigot, according to an account published Saturday.

'I believe the Republicans will end up being _ running the House and the Senate,' the president was quoted as saying in the interview Thursday aboard Air Force One.

7. Cheney made the same comments on MTP this morning
about being "more confident than ever" that the Pukes would hold onto both Houses. I got a very sick feeling when he said that. I'm afraid the fix is in.

25. Agreed
I have never for one moment thought that the D's would take Congress back. I really hope I am wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

10. Darn right the fix is in
Just as he knew that Jebby would 'fix' Florida, and the same way he knew good old Ken Blackwell would 'fix' things in Ohio. With the leads the Dems have on the *s I'm surprised they would try any of their tricks which is sure to start a revolt. You have to read between the lines when the IDIOT speaks.

U.S. panel to dole out duty dollars

WASHINGTON - Sensitive to accusations of setting up a secret Republican political slush fund, the Bush administration plans to announce next week that a non-partisan foundation will dole out US$450-million in Canadian lumber duties to worthy U.S. causes.

Sources say President George W. Bush will create a seven-member "independent endowment foundation" that will also include several Canadian observers.

The U.S.-run foundation will decide how about half of the US$1-billion remaining in the United States from the softwood lumber settlement with Canada will be distributed.

That is the only reason they released the recent senate report on intelligence. When the Democrats take control of the house and they start an investigation of how we got into the war, they are going to say "This has already all been investigated.

24. I'll vote, but
Bush has obviously been told something by somebody (=Cheney).
When he says Pelosi as Speaker is "not going to happen," he
has been told it isn't going to happen. This means that some
manipulation is already planned (OK, raise your hand if you're
surprised).

Still, there will be more vigilance than ever this time, so the
voter fraud will have to even more blatant than it was in the
last two elections, and I think Democratic turnout will be bigger
than in the last two elections.

The bad news is that Bush and his gang of Stalinists ("those who
count the votes decide everything") know this too, and are surely
calculating what it will take to hold the House and Senate. They
may even sacrifice Blackwell in Ohio, who will be the one candidate
most under scrutiny, in order to manipulate other races that are
less on everybody's minds, and therefore easier to manipulate.
