U.S. Wants to Collect More Passenger and Fingerprint Data
Homeland Security Secretary Says Effort Designed to Find 'Unknown Terrorists'

Sept. 8, 2006 -- Just days before the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his department and others were intensifying efforts to "identify unknown terrorist threats."

In a speech at Georgetown University, Chertoff said two programs which identify individuals who may be linked to terrorist activity through analyzing travel records as well as fingerprints which have been recovered at terrorist facilities, safehouses and on bomb fragments around the world, would be expanded.

Chertoff said that U.S. officials would be pushing European allies to provide greater amounts of airline passenger data in efforts to screen for potential terrorists who may not be on various watchlists maintained by U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

The information the U.S. is seeking from airlines and European countries has been a sticking point in anti-terrorism information sharing between the U.S. and European allies because of privacy concerns over passenger name record (PNR) data.

3. Bull. Shit. Fingerprints, to identify 'unknown' terrorists? If they're
unknown, how's this going to solve anything?

21. Well, we know there are known knowns, and unknown knowns,
and unknown unknowns. Like Schrodinger's Cat. That is a known unknown, don't ya know? And how the known person who is unknown if he or she is a known or unknown terrorist will attack a known or unknown target really is classified as an unknown unknown, especially if the known person's gender is unknown, because they we know we have an unknown unknown unknown, which is known to be worse than an unknown unknown but it is not known if an unknown unknown unknown is better than a known unknown unknown.

(That was harder to write than you might think!)

5. This is all just part of the Evil Bush's scheme to track all of us.
I have been feeling for years that the pigs are trying to keep track of our movements and spy on all of us. They listen to our phone calls, read our posts, and will probably soon keep tabs on our homes. It might not be Big Brother with TV screens in all of our rooms, but the bar codes, credit cards, phone calls...everything they are going to watch everything we do. This is why I keep moving around the country every six months or so. Hopefully, if I can stay low, Bush and his Nazis won't be able to pry into my personal life.

6. Welcome to DU, freedomsunshine!
:hi: We need to remove these dangerous people so we don't have TV screens in every room spying on us.

9. Welcome
Just don't use credit cards if you are paranoid about them. You don't really need a phone if you are always moving.

And again welcome to the code deciphering bunch.

10. Oh I use cash only. It's much easier without having
someone pry into my financial world. I don't write checks either. If Bush is successful in his plans to dominate us, credit cards will be used as just one method of control. What worries me is that they might try to use my laptop to home in on me one of these days.

That you should hit on me. Nobody else does.

Methinks that you haven't heard about banks.

Anyways, will look for your posts.

13. I don't use banks. Banks are linked together through the Federal
Reserve. Which is controlled by the government and therefore controlled by the White House Nazi. When his takeover is complete, Bush's control of our finances will be just one way he will attempt to manipulate every aspect of our lives.

15. So
Let me get this straight.

Every six months you move to a new location.

You don't have a bank account.

You manage to live from a job(?) or something and you are able to survive. I guess living on ideas.

Must be nice.

Tell me how we can survive like you do. Many, many are waiting for the answer.

16. Living on ideas would be nice, but it doesn't feed me.
I have lived off of the goodwill of others and I have performed jobs for people I have met. Lots of dishes and cleaning, etc. I look to the Great Mother to lead me where I need to go to next. Six months is about what I average as the Great Mother warns me when the Bush Nazis have begun to close in. At that point I move on to where She leads me. She will bring me to a new home where I will live with and I will survive on what money I am able to earn.

19. What tracking bits?
The banks are linked by computers. Cash is not linked by any sort of computers. There are no RFID chips in U.S. dollars. I have verified this through my own thorough examination of money that I have earned. I can assure you that Bush is using other means to monitor us.

23. Those are just nylon or whatever
I don't worry about those. But I hear that in some countries they are experimenting with plastic currency instead of paper. I wonder what they will be able to sneak into that. Magnetic stripes, perhaps?

24. I had a friend who told me this story about them
"they" drive down the street with their magic reader machines and count how much cash each household has in it by finding those little strips. This was the same person that told me the reason for ambulance sirens in the city was because people were lured out to watch and "they" could sneak in the back and do a quick search of the house for guns. Too much Philip K. Dick or something.

25. Right....
Your friend must have hat-hair from wearing the tinfoil so much...

The only time people actually get off their duffs to look for an ambulance is when they're living in small-town America. Nobody else looks unless the bus stops nearby. I speak first-hand on this.

And if they have a magic scanner that can read hundreds of imaginary nylon strips at a range of dozens of yards, why don't they also have a scanner that picks up the two or three pounds of metal that a gun is made of? In fact, I find it far more likely the government is sneaking coded chips into the grips or magazine followers of pistols than in our money.

Hmmm... I just might have started a brand-new conspiracy theory with that last sentence. I can see it now. All the anarchists start microwaving their guns to fry the hypothetical tracking chips, and some idiot forgets to unload his.

Man shoot microwave, he goes to jail. Microwave shoots man, man makes News of the Weird and Olbermann's "Oddball" segment.

Watch the guy leave a semi-auto in the microwave on a turntable and the damn thing keeps spraying bullets in a 360-degree circle until it's empty!

22. don't forget all the criminal arrests
Each time, you're fingerprinted. And if it's a felony, you can't vote anymore if convicted, which disenfranchises a lot of minorities. Two birds, one stone.

Remember, in the Deep South vagrancy used to be a felony. Why? To keep blacks from voting!

The GOP already makes me take my shoes off, searches my baggage, and now they are going to check my fingerprints?

It reminds me of Hitler asking for proper papers.
