Schwarzenegger apologizes over (crude, racist) remark
That must be one hell of a big foot to wedge down his larynx...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060908/ap_on_re_us/schwarzenegger_tape_6

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger apologized Friday for saying during a closed-door meeting that Cubans and Puerto Ricans are naturally feisty and temperamental because of their combination of "black blood" and "Latino blood."

He said the tape-recorded comments "made me cringe" when he read them in Friday's Los Angeles Times.

"Anyone out there that feels offended by those comments, I just want to say I'm sorry, I apologize," Schwarzenegger said. He added that if he heard his children make similar comments, "I would be upset."...

"I mean Cuban, Puerto-Rican, they are all very hot," the governor says on the recording. "They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it."

You just kind of have to imagine him delivering the line in the trademark Ahhh-nuld accent, 'specially the "you know" part :-)

But hey, at least he didn't say "macaca" :P

Nazi belief is that genetics, or "blood," is the main determinant of character. So I'm not surprised he still believes it.

19. Has the been taken out of context?
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-me-meeting8sep08,0,2342495,full.story?coll=la-home-headlines

OK, so this is my first post. But unless I'm wrong, nobody seems to have been upset by this. here is part of the article linked above.

Peace...

"I mean, they are all very hot," the governor says. "They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it."

He goes on to recall a former weightlifter and competitor, Cuban-born Sergio Oliva. "He was like that," Schwarzenegger says.

Garcia and McCarthy called the conversation irrelevant, even funny, when contacted by The Times on Thursday. Plescia had no comment.

Garcia said the conversation didn't bother her in the least. She called herself an "unpolished politician" and said Schwarzenegger had shown nothing but respect for her.

"I love the governor because he is a straight talker just like I am," Garcia said. "Very often I tell him, 'Look, I am a hot-blooded Latina.' I label myself a hot-blooded Latina that is very passionate about the issues, and this is kind of an inside joke that I have with the governor."

Margita Thompson, a spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger, issued this statement: "This is a small part of a long conversation that is taken totally out of context. The governor respects every member of the Legislature and holds them in the highest regard. It is not uncommon for him to have fun and joke with the members while they're working, especially during very tense negotiations."

31. Many conservatives will interpret this as much ado about nothing...
or about very little. He may even get some bounce out of "being persecuted by pc liberals". Hell, maybe that was the point, but he seems to be a real idiot so who's to say?

The corporate media loves him though, so if this starts to cause any real pain they'll drop the issue like a hot potato.

BTW, welcome to DU!

60. Funny, there was a BIG do in SF
just this week. Newsom and Villagrosa (who dislike each other very much) had a great fete for Angelides. Don't forget the MSM works on a local black out too.

We of course can't fight the dirty Diebold machines, but don't write us off just yet.

Besides if the Booben groper is "running unopposed" he is shooting himself in the foot daily.

Now the gays hate him in addition to teachers, nurses, labor, police and fire fighters, not to mention the fact that a bi partisan bill passed the state house and senate to provide universal health care. And his latest racial slur is making lots of news.

Let's have a little hope today, okay?

Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 08:58 PM by phrenzy
Sorry, but, right or wrong, this is the kind of stuff 90% of human beings say about each other behind closed doors. Arnie may have been dumb to say it on tape, but it is not going to be seen as a 'scandal' like his sexual harassment (justifiably) was.

I hope the Angelides campaign doesn't try to blow this out of proportion, like they found him burning a cross in front of somebodies house or they may end up just looking like the PC police which can def. turn people off.

If the subject of these remarks doesn't take offense then I think it should rest.

And also, Deep down, I somewhat agree with the generalization that Cubans and Puerto Ricans are intense people. At least the ones I've met have been 'passionate' more so than other nationalities.

49. Has anyone listened to the audio of Ahnuld saying this? Its disgusting!
And on TV here locally tonite they were playing it and then showing that asshole standing next to the Republican Latino Representative who he had "supposedly" been referring to, and she was standing there next to him gazing at him saying how much she loves him and wasn't offended by the comment. It is so offensive to me that anyone would be talking about "the blood" of people. I know that there is the stereo-type (even among Latinos) of being a hot-blooded Latin (ie. fiery, passionate) but I've never heard a Latino say its because of the mix of their "Black Blood" or "Native Indian Blood" or "Conquistadore Blood". I think anytime someone starts talking about "blood" and in the context he said this, its disgusting and shows his racist leanings.

I hope all sane voters of CA who abhor racists will be paying attention and vote this piece of crap out of the Gov office.
