Bush* Overheard in Merry Old Ireland (Funny Stuff!!)
It's a most rare moment whenever anyone outside the government is actually able to sit in on meetings amongst the major players and then report on them right afterward. Usually we have to wait years for memoirs, and those have an annoying tendency to be biased.

But British Prime Minister Tony Blair afforded that extraordinary real-time access to Peter Stothard, former editor of the Times of London, for four weeks in March and April. The result is Stothard's new book, "Thirty Days," which turned out to coincide with the start of the war with Iraq.

(snip)

Blair asked Bush if he'd had a good trip. " 'Yes,' Bush replied, 'I go to sleep, wake up and here I am in Merry Old Ireland.' " Stothard mildly notes that "Northern Ireland is not normally known as 'merry,' " and that, in any event, they were not in the Irish republic, but in Great Britain.

(snip)

"You were brilliant," British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw told Bush after the news conference. Rice was less ebullient.

"Rice begins gently to suggest to her boss that some of their colleagues back in Washington might not be best pleased. When she becomes more vigorous," Stothard wrote, Bush "leads her away from the crowd. "He looks at first concerned, then a bit frosty."

Later, at a photo session, "Rice continues her commentary on the excess vitality of the press conference," Stothard writes. "'Ease it, Condi, ease it,' says the president. The dispute ceases."

4. This isn't even funny anymore.
George Bush called Africa a country. He referred to the citizens of Greece as "Grecians". And, now he ends up in Northern Ireland...and, he refers to Belfast as "merry old Ireland"?!? WTF?!?

Geeez! Did this idiot ever attend grammar school? :dunce:

15. Don't forget around inauguration day
when the soprano(?) singing at one of the celebrations rold shrub she was from Dublin.

His comeback, "So are you Irish or English." The soprano supposedly gave him a WTF look.

Don't forget, didn't he ask one time if there are black people in South America?

I never thought I was smarter than any president. Today I feel like a damn genius compared to the Krawford Kowboy.

He asked "Do you have black people in Brazil?" (paraphrase) Condi or someone informed him that (paraphrase) "Yes, most of the population is of African ancestry." 60% or something.

5. As an Irish American ...
Edited on Sun Jul-20-03 10:46 PM by twilight
I find no humor in this statement. It infers one of two things: 1. * is really a stupid arse; or 2. * is thinking that Northern Ireland is part of England and that it is therefore just like England and that it needs to be rightfully assigned as such and ridded of the likes of Gerry Adams, etc.

I tend to believe that it is *'s stupidity myself, but I wouldn't put anything past this war mongering village idiot! :dunce:

9. perhaps he needs a "Holiday In Cambodia" next...
Your a star-belly sneech you suck like a leech
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you bitch so you can get rich
But your boss gets richer on you
Well you'll work harder with a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers til you starve
Then your head skewered on a stake
Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need my son:

Is a holiday in Cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll kiss ass or crack

this man embodies all that is wrong with Ivy nepotism. The man has two degrees from Ivy League Schools and thinks its just fine to refer to Belfast as Merry Old Ireland. God what an incredible imbecile.
