Pakistan urges unity on Taliban
KABUL (Reuters) - Islamabad and Kabul must stop playing blame games in the battle against the resurgent Taliban and work together to crush the group on both sides of the border, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said on Thursday.

Musharraf urged Afghanistan to put aside past rows over cross-border infiltration and work with Pakistan on a new strategy to combat the Taliban with violence across Afghanistan at its worst since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion.

The Pakistani leader is winding up a two-day visit which analysts say is largely aimed at smoothing over tensions caused by the hardline Islamists, their al Qaeda allies and other groups operating from the wild border areas of his country.

"Certainly, I completely agree that al Qaeda and the Taliban are operating in both in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Musharraf said in a speech to community and political leaders ahead of the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States.
