Iran president urges West to follow God's path

By Parisa Hafezi 33 minutes ago

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a devout Shi'ite Muslim, urged the West on Wednesday to turn to God's path and said failure to do would ensure they faced "no good fate."

Ahmadinejad, whose speeches are often peppered with religious and anti-Western remarks, also repeated a call for a live television debate with George W. Bush and said Iran was not a threat, rebuffing Tuesday's comments by the U.S. president.

Iran is embroiled in a nuclear stand-off with the West, which accuses Tehran of seeking to build atomic bombs, a charge Tehran dismisses. Ahmadinejad says Western powers use such accusations as a ploy to hold back Iran's development.

.......

"We requested a face-to-face debate (with Bush) to assess the problems of the world ... We will let humanity choose between us," he told a meeting on the 12th Muslim Shi'ite imam, who disappeared in the 10th century AD but who Shi'ites believe will return to implement Islamic justice.

"We oppose the fact that America and Britain intend to impose themselves on every other nation," he said.

1. "Washington has said the call for a debate is a diversion."---I think
Jr should talk directly with him--or at least representatives from both countries should talk--

10. Islam has also imposed itself on manyh nations
and it sounds like Ahmedinejad is trying to impose his beliefs on the west.

It looks like he's also trying to purge Iran's universities of liberal and secularist professors.

Britain and America have been guilty of exporting their culture, though the youth of many of the world's nations seem eager enough to embrace it. I can't accuse modern-day Britain and America of imposing their religions on the world's couintries, other than maybe the independent missionary organizations.

19. as much as i hate religion
(and i don't use the word hate often) i must agree. "christians" haven't done near the damage to christianity that "muslims" have done to islam. and, yes, i know there are some good christians and muslims. but, i mean, when's the last time you saw a methodist behead a pentecostal?

5. asif somebody posesses that path
Lets let slide for a moment, the assertion that there is a profound force in the universe, a higher power,
a jehovah, an allah, tao, God, godhead, krishna, shiva, RAMA, Ram, Ra, awakeness itself without human self,
unconditional love... so lets say one of these profound awakenings really exists.

Then everyone would be already on god's path, as that beingness is universal, by all their own god teachings, that
'god is all'. If god is universal and has always existed, then it is all that exists now, and the appearance
of separation is a mirage of energy-constructs, that the mind misinterprets as outer phenomena, when in fact,
all is god, and there is no difference in soul, and any arrogance to presume outside that, is not god,
never will be god, on any continent, but rather the machinations of men abusing symbols they don't know.

7. Let the Debate between Bush and Ahmadinejad begin!

I think it would be a fascinating discussion between two "heads of state" that clearly see their "path" as being the correct one.

Although something tells me that Ahmadinejad would come across as seeming surprisingly logical and making sense compared to George W. Bush.

Bush would fail miserably in a debate of any kind and in a debate with the leader of Iran would probably come across as a ranting lunatic....

I might disagree with both men on all issues if they debated, but you have to admit, the world sure would learn a lot about these two men and who and what they are all about?

21. I don't think so
How reasonable would Ahmadinejad look saying Israel should be wiped out, that everyone should convert to Islam, that we should all bow to the might of Iran?

Bush might suck, but Ahmadinejad is an entirely different can of worms. Pretending that Ahmadinejad is a reasonable man is folly.

22. I was just thinking about the Pope.
I was wondering if everybody would be so up in arms over Iran if they were Christian. And then I remembered, oh, yeah. The Vatican.
