Florida Governor: Crist (R) 45%, Davis (D) 41%
The Gov's race tightens...

As Florida's September 5 primaries approach, the Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Republican Attorney General Charles Crist narrowly leading Democratic Congressman Jim Davis 45% to 41% when voters consider a general election match-up.

In June, Crist's lead over Davis jumped to fourteen percentage points. But the race has tightened in the weeks since. A month ago, it was Crist 47% Davis 42%.

Crist is better known, has slightly higher favorables, and has double the "very favorable" rating of Davis: 24% for Crist versus 12% for Davis.

Crist and Davis are favored to win the primaries, although Davis is facing a much more serious challenge than he expected. Both frontrunner out-gun other possible nominees. When state CFO Tom Gallagher is matched with Davis, Davis leads 52% to 36%. Crist leads Democratic State Senator Rod Smith 47% to 38%.

1. What the hell is wrong with those people in Florida?
For that matter, what's with most of America?

They've had Republican utopia for five years and they still don't see the writing on the wall?

7. Davis has been less-than-responsive to his constituents.
Quite frankly, the guy has sucked in this aspect. It's hurting him a lot in the campaign.

23. Davis is far from perfect, but his voting record is very much Democratic
I'm taking the liberty of linking to a beautiful post by seasat in the Florida forum

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=145x7732

Seasat provides extensive documentation, but the main points are:

-- Jim Davis is strong on the environment.
-- Jim Davis led the fight against the Terry Shiavo pandering by republicans in Congress.
-- Jim Davis supports workers.
-- Jim Davis supports sensible health policy.
-- Jim Davis is strong on education.
-- Jim Davis has the most liberal view on relations with Cuba.
-- Jim Davis supports fair trade.
-- Jim Davis has an over 90% rating on voting on issues important to the NAACP.

I'll also add that Davis is a co-sponsor of Russ Holt's verified paper ballot bill and has shown an impressive ability to fight against the slimy Big Sugar accusations, which bodes well for his ability to stand up for himself in the general election.

The idea that there wouldn't be a difference between Davis and Crist is ... well, about as crazy as the idea that there wouldn't be a difference between Gore and Bush.

25. And?
it goes without saying that you are free to do whatever you want. But if you can look at Davis' record and Crist's record and think that life in Florida won't be better for the vast majority of Floridians if Davis is the one in office, then we just aren't living on the same planet.

support davis..and where did i say it was davis that had the DLC screwing the grass roots candidates??
i didn't...but in my county and several others there was a DLC game going on..to screw the local candidates. and run dlc types against them...

some very good dems were run against by the dlc questionable dems..

and i say questionable..when someone changes their party affliliation 6 times..would you not have questions of these candidates..when set up to run against very very good lifelong dems by the dlc??

thats my point.

11. Crist = Height of Hypocrisy...
... Charilie is one of the more stellar hypocrites in a party well known for that characteristic. He is a gay bashing Gay. He's thus far managed to keep himself fairly well positioned in the closet, but if you know anyone who gravitates in his GOP circles, you know that he is a self-hating gay man.

Moreoever, the fact that the Arch Bigot, Child molestor, AssWeipe himself, "Dr." Dobson, endorsed this guy just shows how desperate the GOP is for a candidate that will prevail.

Frankly and I can't believe I am saying this, But Charlie - almost - makes the big, ole' fat Jebster look good by comparion.

The fact that he prevails this early in the polling is yet another reason why I will say a gracious adios to this state in about six months after thirty plus years.

There's a reason why there is so much swamp land here in Florida; ideologically, its a perfect metaphor for the intellectual sophistication of this state.

IN OTHER STATES ABOUT.. we have seen this now in 3 electons..it is how votes are stolen..they fake the polls!

they fake the polls to look closer than they are..so when they steal the election the masses are not concerned about election stolen ..because it was sooooo

"fucking " close..

its all bullshit

and i will tell you this..the rethugs would rather go up against Davis than Rod Smith...

20. did you hear that from Smith?
;-)

Frankly, it doesn't make sense to me. Because Smith is "tough on crime" and pro-gun? "Chaingang Charlie" has already been endorsed by the NRA, so I don't see either of those issues getting Smith much traction in North Florida againt Crist. And, he'll get killed in Central Florida, where Davis can hold his own. All the polls (with the exception of Strategic Vision, which is a republican poll, give Davis the edge).

31. well, I was joking mostly
i've heard it (mostly from Smith supporters). But I don't see why and the majority of the polls don't show it (the only one that indicated smith doing slightly better was that Strategic Vision poll released the other day and I don't trust it because when I looked at their list of clients they were all republicans).

is a really good politician, he remembers people's names when introduced, looks people straight in the eye when he talks to them etc. comes off sincere and people like that. He's a career politician and has name recognition. Jeb has already pledged to go on the campaign trail.

Really really hope Davis runs a good campaign ... he doesn't have much time. The primary debate was canceled because of hurricane threats and a lot of people still don't know who he is.
