Report: Japan to Pick New PM Sept. 26
09.05.2006, 07:26 AM

Japan's parliament will convene on Sept. 26 to pick a new prime minister,
Kyodo News agency reported Tuesday.

The parliament gathering is to follow the Sept. 20 leadership election of the
ruling LDP party. Whoever wins that race is expected to become prime minister
because the party holds the majority of seats in parliament's powerful lower
house.

Hawkish chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe is the front-runner in the LDP ballot.
