AP: Iraq to Extend State of Emergency
Iraq to Extend State of Emergency

Tuesday September 5, 2006 9:46 AM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraq's parliament voted on Tuesday to extend the country's
state of emergency for 30 days, except in the northern Kurdish region.

The measure has been in place for almost two years and grants security forces
greater powers.

Several lawmakers questioned the validity of the vote.

1. Considering they haven't even made a dent in the violence, I suppose
this makes some sense. So far it hasn't done any good but you gotta hand it to 'em. If they keep doing it until everybody's dead, then they can claim that it worked.
