NYT/AP: Klan Holds Rally at Gettysburg
Klan Holds Rally at Gettysburg
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: September 3, 2006

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- About 30 Ku Klux Klan members proclaimed hatred for blacks, Jews, gays and Latinos as they stood behind barricades at the Civil War battlefield where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address.

Gordon Young of the World Knights of the Ku Klux Klan also called Saturday for the U.S. to pull its troops out of Iraq and use them to patrol the Mexican border to stop illegal immigration.

The World Knights obtained a permit in July for the two-hour demonstration. The National Park Service granted it under the group's First Amendment rights to free speech.

Several groups counterdemonstrated. Park Service spokeswoman Katy Lawhon said there were no major incidents; one man was cited for entering a restricted area carrying a rainbow flag.

Confederate re-enactors from Virginia protested the Klan's adoption of the Confederate battle flag as an emblem and its claim to be a continuance of the Confederate cause....

3. So, where is the leadership in this country?
Why isn't this type of thing being denounced loud and clear? Why hasn't anyone come forward to speak out against the horrible incident involving the kids that were asked to sit in the back of the bus? Huh?

The silence is deafening. It's shameful.

6. Lots of article denouncing it...
but unfortunately for some reason the 'race industry' types that usually write the stuff are only looking for anti-semitism on the Left at the moment...apparently Rachel Corrie and her supporters are far more 'racist' than Nazis in Madison or Nazis in Alabama or Nazis in Gettysburg or the Nazis organzing in the US military...

In reading the story, we find...d'oh:
''These guys don't stand for anything I stand for,'' said Tim McCown of Jefferson, Md. ''And it's time we disengage our flag from what they stand for.''

A spectator more worried about the image of the Confederate flag and scrolling down...

"...More than 150 law enforcement officials patrolled the event, which drew about 200 spectators, some of whom echoed the Klan's calls while others jeered their rhetoric.

Young's group and other white-supremacist organizations held a similar event June 10 at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Md.

It's good of the New York Times to present a balanced account of this

13. Was Tony Snow a Klansman?
I had never heard that.

Only public official I'd heard of who was in the Klan was Senator Byrd and that was over 50 years ago.

12. Shocking, isn't it?
I guess they want to be racist against the brown people that are charging across the boarder instead of the ones overseas. Less of a commute, ya know.

I got that little funny taste in my mouth when I realized that the Klan and I had a bit of common ground.

14. no common ground
The KKK opposes the war for the same reason David Duke opposes it: they want to see Israel destroyed, and see US involvement in Iraq as detrimental to that goal.

They don't give a shit about peace, humanitarianism, or the Iraqi people.

All the KKK cares about is turning the US into a club of exclusively white protestants (let's not forget they're against Catholics, too). They have nothing in common with progressives and never have.

20. It's all part of the next media psyops...
Small as it may look...(20 KKK or 20 neo-Nazis in a park..or walking through your naighborhood), none-the-less, every event seems to get into the newspaper.

I can remember about 5 or 6 of reported in the past year.

The point is, the more coverage they give these lowlifes, the more the media can play with the association of dissenters and skinheads. So when the police SWAT teams swoop down on dissenting groups, the American people have already been prepped & psyop'ed.

'If you're against the war, you're a fascist'...says Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, catapulting the propaganda all this past month. No one like the KKK or the neo-Nazis, they're a frickin embarrassment to most of the white race.

It will be interesing to see what the media does with the protrayal of the AntiWar Movement, in future. So far, the peaceful and orderly manner of Peace Marches haven't given them the chance to arrest dissenters, en masse. BUT, should they introduce the DRAFT ~ BINGO!

The psyops can also be the KKK and neo-Nazis have joined forces with Karl Rove. They're just faking us out Like they care about the war in Iraq. YA KNOW? WTF is that? I say it's psyops.

9. This area of Maryland (Frederick/Sharpsburg) is infamous..
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 01:03 PM by Virginia Dare
for it's racist incidents and active KKK'ers.

Of course this is north of the Mason-Dixon line, but the population of Maryland was fairly divided in it's loyalties, and there were some Maryland regiments fighting in the Confederacy.

17. I think this is Gettysburg, PA
I've driven through the area a few times, and it looks like farmland inhabited by people of Amish/Dutch descent. Not the kind of people who would be hospitable to neo-Confederate or KKK ideology.

If I know history, it was a pretty solidly Union territory, especially after Lee invaded and allowed his troops to pillege farms and towns.

Chamberlain wouldn't have dealt with this shit, he'd have fixed bayonets, fired a volley, and charged!

19. You can trace your family back that far?
Sweetness. I can trace my dad's family back to the 19th century, but at the time of the Civil War they had fled Germany for a couple of generations in Russia. Then back to Germany, then Nebraska a couple of decades before WWII.

I really wish we could get FDR, TR, or Eisenhowser back. Someone who, when he speaks, inspires. Bush just stutters, stammers, and smirks his way through issues of vital national importance.

I got to see the M-14 rifle that the Springfield Armory in Mass. made for Eisenhowser. They had it on display. A flawless example of the gunsmith's art. It's serial number was "DDE". I'd gladly carry that rifle and some ammo pouches for Ike.

Storm fails to dampen G-burg community solidarity event
By JEFFREY B. ROTH
For the Daily Record/Sunday News

.. Held at Gettysburg Recreation Park, the event combined free entertainment, free food and a children's carnival, among other activities, to bring the community together to celebrate diversity, said Jean Odom, retired executive director of South Central Community Action Programs and a member of the unity day's steering committee ..

A former KKK member, Floyd Cochrain of Lock Haven said he quit the group in the mid-1990s because of his son. Cochrain, who now travels and speaks against the Klan, said that, according to KKK and Aryan Nation philosophy, his disabled son should have been euthanized ..

"Look around at the people here ... different races, ethnic groups and cultures," Strobert said. "They also represent a cross-section of ages, from children to senior citizens. It shows the strength of the people in Gettysburg." ..

28. KKK/Aryan Nations allied against Israel?
I thought these white supremecists were against the US invasion because it was helping the Zionist agenda, by attacking the Muslim countries.

"The Turner Diaries" is probably a best-seller for this group.

If they are against Bush, it's not because he is a fascist or against the 'islamo-fascists'.

I'm wary of their agenda as much as I am distrustful of the libertarians.
