Schwarzenegger Explains Why He Went Green
Schwarzenegger Explains Why He Went Green
'Terminator' Says the Environment Is a Huge Issue, and He Doesn't Need Bush's Campaign Help

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2, 2006 — Just days after California passed legislation restricting greenhouse gas emissions, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said fighting for environmental issues is important, even if that meant opposing the president.

"I don't think one should look at greenhouse gas emissions or global warming as a political issue," Schwarzenegger told ABC News. "So, if that policy of fighting global warming is against our, the Bush Administration, then so be it."

State legislators passed a deal this week, making California the first state to impose across-the-board strict greenhouse gas emissions cuts on industry, energy plants and businesses. The legislation proposed to cut carbon emissions by 25 percent. They are the same sorts of regulations a growing number of national legislators of both parties believe could make their way to Capitol Hill next year.
(snip)

Schwarzenegger faces a re-election battle this fall, but said if Bush advisor Karl Rove were to call offering the president's help, he would decline the help because of the president's lack of popularity in California.

2. I can't believe this fraud.
Schwartzenegger is hardly green. That's marketing, the same by which Bush represented himself as Green in 2000.

I can't believe people are so stupid. They deserve what they are going to get.

16. He's so full of shit...
seriously. If he's so concerned about the environment, why doesn't he have a chat with the company he helped to roll out Hummers for consumers?

If he's so concerned about the environment why doesn't he take down his pos smoking tent that he erected to get around CA's non-smoking laws?

He makes me sick.

4. Hopefully, this will force the GOP against him and we still get the
gas emissions legislation we wanted. He will say anything to get elected. He probably will be elected, his opponent is invisible. The press is all Arnie, all the time.

The businesses will follow the residents of California and migrate into Nevada and Arizona.

8. How could the Democrats in CA be so
incompetent or complacent enough to let this asswipe off hook after his referendum fiasco. They should never have made nice with him afterward but instead made him a damn object lesson in GOP arrogance and overreach.

10. NPR report says CA was equally sick of CA Dem legislature, it wasn't just
Gropeman they were pissed at. The Dems are in control in CA and people were threatening to kick out the incumbents if they didn't deal with CA's problems.

11. Yeah, not that I'd ever support Ahnold but...

Just to say what has to be said: at least he's offering one paper-thin layer of honesty beyond what your run of the mill Republican does. How many others do you see actually saying point blank that he doesn't want the Kiss of Death from shrub? You could say that it's because he's an R governor in a blue state, but I don't see Healey in MA doing the same (instead she's trying to bribe her way in with dangerous tax cuts.)

It's all pandering, of course, (Romney just did essentially the same thing, promoting an energy efficiency bill that he knows his resigning ass will never have to deal with.) However, I'm sure Ahnold is causing some freepers a bit of mental dissonance which is fun to see.
