Gunman Enters British Embassy in Israel
Armed Arab Man Threatening to Commit Suicide Enters Grounds of British Embassy in Tel Aviv

JERUSALEM Aug 31, 2006 (AP)— An armed man threatening to commit suicide breached security at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv and was loose on the grounds inside, police said Thursday. Embassy spokeswoman Karen Kauffman said police were invited into the embassy compound and were seeking to deal with the situation. There were no reports of any shots fired.

Police said the man was an Arab who demanded asylum in the United Kingdom.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the man was armed with a pistol and police were on the scene.
