Rumsfeld's 'arrogance' provokes Esch

BY HENRY J. CORDES

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Second District congressional candidate Jim Esch says it probably was a poor choice of words for him to call Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld an "idiot" on his campaign Web site.

But he said the remark expressed his frustration with what he called the "arrogance" Rumsfeld showed the previous day in likening those who question the Iraq war to Nazi-era appeasers.

Esch, the Democrat seeking to unseat incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Lee Terry in the Omaha-based 2nd District, posted his comments Wednesday on a campaign weblog that appears on his Web site, www.jimesch.org.

Jim Esch, candidate for Nebraska's 2nd congressional district.

"It's time to abandon this failed policy in Iraq," Esch wrote. "I will not stand by and watch another U.S. soldier die, so idiots like Don Rumsfeld can rewrite history."

Jim does not take any special intrest or PAC money. As you can guess, he has a cash problem because of that. You can donate through his site or act blue.

2. I think I'd have quoted Cheney-
"I expressed myself rather forcefully, felt better after I had done it...I think that a lot of my colleagues felt that what I had said badly needed to be said, that it was long overdue."
