Bush to welcome Kuwait Emir Sept 5

NASHVILLE, United States (AFP) - US President George W. Bush will welcome Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah on September 5 for talks on issues like rebuilding Iraq and Lebanon, the White House said.

"The president looks forward to discussing with Emir Sabah a range of bilateral and regional issues, including the war on terror, assistance and reconstruction of Iraq and Lebanon, and Kuwait's commendable progress on reform," said Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino.

"Kuwait is a close and valuable ally," Perino said in a statement released as Bush was travelling to Arkansas and Tennessee to raise funds for fellow Republicans ahead of November elections.

The visit, announced in Kuwait city on August 26, will be the emir's first official visit to Washington since he became ruler of the oil-rich Gulf state.
