4. I'm not a great believer in an eye for an eye.
I'm genuinely just curious. I suppose that as Afghanistan and Irag were both as a result of 9/11 they should be grouped together for this purpose. As those "wars" were efectively in retaliation for 9/11 when one figure exceeds the other it will further highlight the futility of it all.

6. They died for Halliburton Profits
They wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country. But in modern war,
there is nothing sweet nor fitting in your dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason.

9. Then we will never leave
Because the Iraqis are owed about another 110,000 American lives.

Currently about 43 Iraqis die violently for every American soldier. This is about the same ratio as during the Vietnam war and the Black Hawk Down incident.

10. You're using Ward Churchill's arguement
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 02:04 PM by edwardlindy
which concluded that retribution for deaths worldwide as a result of American overseas policy over the past century or so would require, in effect, multiple 9/11s. Just a case of the chickens coming home to roost.

edit: your changed to you're - doh.

16. Never heard of Ward Churchill, but he seems like a wise man
Well, at least we're not the British. God knows what they're owed!

This is the problem with empires... they inevitably become former empires. If you're lucky, you're not conquered afterwards.

8. 2,973 Innocents killed, 19 hijackers killed, 24 missing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11%2C_2001_attacks

246 on the planes (including hijackers)
125 in the Pentagon
2602 in Manhattan, including 343 FDNY, 23 NYPD and 37 Port Authority police

I went to the 9/11 memorial in Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT, during Thanksgiving of 2004. There are dozens of stones engraved with the names of those from Connecticut killed in the attacks. Several of them were firefighters.

On many of the stones two pennies were placed on them. My mom did not understand the significance of the two pennies.

I told her that, in ancient Greek times, the relatives of the deceased would place coins over the corpse's eyes so the person's soul would be able pay Charon to cross the river Acheron into Hades.

I left 2 quartes on the marker of fallen fireman.

11. Place another Marine on the pile!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.
