Washington has offered Moscow help in searching for the killers of four Russian diplomats and an embassy worker in Iraq, a senior Russian defense official said on Wednesday.
"At the August 28 talks in Fairbanks, Alaska, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld offered Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov assistance of the U.S. secret services in tracking down those responsible for the deaths of Russian diplomats in Iraq," the high-ranking official who had taken part in the talks was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
"This issue was discussed with the fact in mind that by deploying multiple troops and crack units in Iraq, the United States has great opportunities for conducting secret and operational work with the local population," the official said.
