Hero’s kin: GI had called war ‘lost cause’

<snip>

Army Spc. Edgardo Zayas, 29, of Dorchester was killed in Baghdad Saturday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol, officials said.

“When I went in ’91, we knew who we were fighting against; now, we don’t,” said his cousin, Norberto Martinez, who served in the military from 1991 to 1994.

...

“He found it a lost cause,” Martinez said. “He doesn’t know why he went. . . . I always told him, ‘Keep your head high and watch your back.’ ”

...

“He was actually happy. He thought this was almost over,” Martinez said. “They’re (military officials are) feeding this to them: ‘It’s almost over, it’s almost over.’ ”

They wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country. But in modern war,
there is nothing sweet nor fitting in your dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason.---

6. I recently spoke with a soldier....
My neighbor knows that I have had a few letters to the editor printed in our local newspaper. The topic is always Bush/Cheney's war profiteering.

My neighbor wanted me to meet his friend who just came home from Iraq. I was introduced with all my anti-war credentials. We had a nice conversation. The young soldier said he "supported Bush". I asked him if he knew about Cheney and Halliburton; or Bush and the Carlyle Group. He said he knew and he supported them anyway.

As he rubbed his hands over his face and head, he said, "Ya know, it's just that they play games with your head". I asked him what he meant by that? ...He couldn't elaborate, and I didn't push.

4. "It's almost over"
:wtf: Moral has got to be low. It sounds like something you tell someone running a marathon when they feel like collapsing, when they feel as though they can't go one more step.

Eff you rumdum, eff you king george--you murderous bastards!

BRING THEM HOME...... NOW!!!
