Vice president visits Omaha

Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Omaha today to give a boost to a Republican congressman and a round of applause to military personnel at Offutt Air Force Base.

Cheney landed at Eppley Airfield about 11 a.m., then headed to a fund-raising event at the Hilton Hotel.

Proceeds of the $250 per plate luncheon will go to the campaign of U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Lincoln and to the Nebraska Republican Party. About 125 people were expected to attend.

Fortenberry, a first-term congressman, is seeking re-election in November against Democrat Maxine Moul, a former lieutenant governor.

4. While Cheney was in Omaha he campaigned for Pete Ricketts, too

and when Cheney left Omaha he took Ricketts with him on Air Force 2 to Jackson Hole.

So tell me, why do all American taxpayers, Dems as well as Repubs, have to provide transportation for a Republican candidate (Ricketts) via Air Force 2?

Ricketts, by the way, is running against Democratic Senator Ben Nelson - not everyone's favorite Dem, but still a mark in the D column.

Even though Nelson has carried water for Bush Co. like a hired hand, the Republicans from Cheney on down are trashing Nelson ruthlessly.

So much for loyalty. I hope all the other Dems who have kowtowed to Bush take heed. There will be no rewards for your acquiescence, just a knife in the back from dear dick.
