Attorney General Arrives in Baghdad
By Associated Press

August 29, 2006, 6:05 AM EDT

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, a key architect of U.S. policy on the treatment of prisoners and the rule of law in Iraq, arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday.

Gonzales, a former White House counsel, was holding meetings in the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses Iraq's government and the U.S. Embassy, U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Elizabeth Colton said. Meetings would include Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh and U.S. Justice Department officials working in Iraq.

1. Turn the little smurf loose outside the 'Green Zone', and let him explain
to ordinary Iraqis how he feels about the Geneva Conventions, particularly when talking about torture.

Just a thought.

5. The Bushbots are desperate. Gonzo has no business in Iraq
period. He has no authority over there, nothing to offer, and no expertise to contribute but there he is, taking up resources to protect his sorry ass for another photo op. His venue is trashing the Constitution in THIS country. Just another attempt to change the subject. I say give the man a uniform, a gun and tell him to hit the streets and do something useful.

"US Attorney Alberto Gonzales arrives in the Green Zone?" The neckless wonder is unlikely to take many walks outside it.

11. torture boy wants a turn behind the whip
tired of just providing excuses for waterboarding, he wants to witness a few and then join in a circle jerk with the blackwater mercenary torturers.

I'm just speculating.

No legitimate reason for him to be there, otherwise.

12. Gonzales in Iraq to push 'rule of law'
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, an architect of America's heavily criticized prisoner of war policy, met Tuesday with Iraq's deputy prime minister during a visit he said was to promote "the rule of law."

Gonzales, a former White House counsel, met Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh in the heavily fortified Green Zone in the center of the city. The attorney general also was to visit the Iraqi High Tribunal to meet with officials there, said U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Elizabeth Colton.

The tribunal is trying former leader Saddam Hussein and six other defendants on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Gonzales told reporters after the meeting with Saleh that his visit was aimed at providing "what we can ... to help promote the rule of law and also help promote security in this country."

He reiterated the "commitment of the United States government and helping you with the dreams of your government."

13. What an idiot. Like anyone in Iraq gives a fat rat's ass what
Gonzales has to say.

And he's talking to the wrong people anyway. It's al Sadr who's gonna end up running the show.

20. Not to wish ill on anybody, but as long as he's in Iraq he should be
made a guest of some Iraqis whose relatives have similarly been guests of the Americans. Let him explore for himself what constitutes torture, and re-examine why guerilla forces should be treated with the same Geneva Convention restrictions as conventional soldiers.

It would at least make a good screenplay.
