GOP's anti-Rocky plea overwhelms city phones

The Utah Republican Party has urged Utahns to call Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson's office to tell him to "stop embarrassing Utah."

"This morning, the phones were ringing off the hook, and people weren't able to get through," Anderson spokesman Patrick Thronson said Monday afternoon. "We're also setting up a separate voice-mail box to record messages if the lines are busy."

The GOP is angry Anderson is helping organize and will be speaking at an anti-Bush rally Wednesday. The president is coming to Utah this week to speak to the American Legion's national convention.

The party paid to send out voice messages and air radio ads to decry the "negative, disrespectful and embarrassing image" Anderson is sending about Utah, according to a news release.

that * is suppose to attend may be moved to a more secure location and that it won't be open to the general public including many of the American Legion members or * supporters. I think that will keep a lot of them from showing up at all.

22. Bold move by Rocky, given Utah's Approval rating for Bush

I believe Utah has one of the highest Approval Ratings for Bush, one of the few above 50%, so you've gotta respect Rocky's stand.

Sorry to say, but more damage is being done to outside opinion of the state of Utah by the majority of its residents who think this pResident is doing a good job.
