Year After Katrina, Bush Still Fights for 9/11 Image (NYT)
Link to NYT's article (free subscription may be needed): http://tinyurl.com/qh68z

When the nation records the legacy of George W. Bush, 43rd president and self-described compassionate conservative, two competing images will help tell the tale.

The first is of Mr. Bush after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, bullhorn in hand, feet planted firmly in the rubble of the twin towers. The second is of him aboard Air Force One, on his way from Crawford, Tex., to Washington, peering out the window at the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina thousands of feet below.

If the bungled federal response to Hurricane Katrina called into question the president’s competence, that Air Force One snapshot, coupled with wrenching scenes on the ground of victims who were largely poor and black, called into question something equally important to Mr. Bush: his compassion.

A year later, he has yet to recover on either front.

14. Well, don't forget the "12th Commandment" for these people:
Perception is the lord thy god, and thou shalt have no reality gods before it.

For them, perception is everything.

4. 'Tis truly a shame when your best thing fails you
of course the best thing for W is for lots and lots of people to die. His numbers shoot through the roof when that happens....usually.

13. That's the one that I will remember of BuSh*... the rest of my memories of
that whole day (and couple of days before) are also etched in my memory forever. (Long and rather odd story).

OT: Marmalade cats are awesome...well... okay.. all our cats are and dogs are okay too. (btw - I have to say this stuff... I think they all spy on my posts and I prefer our bed to be dry. ;) )

15. Yeah that BS... although there's something about the whole write up
that made me feel a bit like maybe the writer was biting their tongue as to what they want to say.

I haven't meet many from NYC that feel very kindly towards BushCo (and his obvious BULLhorn photo-op) so many down there lost friends and family members that day.

18. The terrorists attacked us because they hate our freedoms

I think Bush's (and those behind him, his bosses, to be sure) actions speak louder than his words.

I happen to believe that the terrorists attacked us because they hate our freedoms. I know it doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but Bush was actually telling the truth when he says that "freedom itself was attacked on 9/11".

I mean, who intimidated the passing of the USA PATROT Act, the REAL ID Act, and instituted the random subway searches.

19. BushCo & the neo-CON cabal hates what they FEAR, FREEDOM. Sans freedom
the "few" would have more power over the many and power and money is what it's all about to these "angel(s) of light" (2nd Cor 11: 13-15) that disguise themselves as "Christians". With the "inalienable rights" and freedoms outlined in the Bill of Rights/Constitution WE all have the POWER.
