Four soldiers died when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle north of Baghdad, a military statement said.

A fifth soldier was killed when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle in the west of the capital. Both attacks occurred on Sunday afternoon.

I doubt they were that lucky, though. Except perhaps for "Saving Private Ryan", movies portray gunshot and explosion deaths as far too quick and easy. "Baghdad ER" does a better job of it.

I understand that such bloodletting is part of war, which is why, when you go to war, you only do it when absolutely necessary. And you do it with overwhelming force in order to end the fighting as soon as possible.

This prolonged crap is just a meatgrinder.

some of those volunteered under a different, more reasonable, administration, and now they're stuck with the crazies. Those being called up, IRR, are from a different administration. And, those who signed up with the National Guard, like our glorious leader, thought they would remain in the States. What gives? Does "little boots" have a grudge against the National Guard? but they're not sweating profusely. According to Dr. Feaver (an analyst who was brought in by Bush), the American people will accept this war as long as the deaths are not too many, and that we see progress in Iraq.

We've got a ways to go, according to history. We were in Viet Nam for 10 years and we lost 58,000 US troops. Towards the end though, things got really dicey for the administration. We were moving into a civil war over VN, and people were getting killed domestically over it.
