President Bush travels Monday to America's Gulf Coast as the region marks the passage of one year since Hurricane Katrina hit landfall. The president plans to visit with storm survivors and inspect reconstruction efforts.

The head of the federal government's Gulf Coast reconstruction effort, Donald Powell, says the president will have a message for the people of the Gulf Coast. He spoke on the ABC television program This Week.

"The president's number one message is that there has been progress but we are not done," said Donald Powell. "We are not going to leave until we are done."

In Mississippi, the president will walk through neighborhoods hard hit by last year's storm, visit a recovering business, and meet with local and state leaders. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour says most of his state has moved from recovery to rebuilding. During an appearance on the CBS program Face the Nation, he said there is a lot to do but stressed Mississippi is ready to face the challenge of another hurricane season.

The president made a series of visits to the city in the following days when he promised aid and reforms in the federal government's emergency response agency. "Tonight I also offer this pledge the American people," said President Bush. "Throughout the area hit by the hurricane we will do what it takes, we will stay as long as it takes to help citizens rebuild their communities and their lives."

The "president's number one message" this year sounds exactly the same as his "number one message" last year.

3. May there be protests
I would love to see people like the young physician that confronted Cheney. He told Cheney to go F himself. That was a great moment of television for the world to see.

9. That translates to "fuck you, America". Nice.
Then again, the majority of what Bush says translates to "fuck you, America."

He's just there to celebrate the destruction he helped allow to happen, the human suffering, and most especially, the opportunity to raise gas prices and to begin the crawl toward drilling the Arctic Wildlife Reserve.

more truth than anything tripping over chucklenut's lazy, lying lips.

Let us see the photo op of god's chosen w/ the son whose mother was the woman left in the wheelchair. Let us see him speaking words of comfort to the thousand's living in cities unfamiliar and w/o family or support. Let us hear the words of reply from those thousands and that devastated man.

13. Last year his 'survivors' included two photogenic young girls
who had driven to the coast from their untouched hometown 100 miles inland. They just wanted to see what the damaged area looked like. Photos and videos of * hugging the girls to "comfort" them made almost every newscast or front page.

One of the foreign newspapers reported that an aid station was set up for Katrina victims just before * arrived. The photo op was done and immediately after * and the MSM left the aid station was torn down.

And of course there was the church where * gave his "we will do anything" speech. There was absolutely NO electricity in that area, so huge generators were brought in to power the big lights that were necessary to produce the dramatic lighting required for the photo op. Once the cameras were turned off, the generators were shut down and the street was plunged back into darkness.

Stephen Colbert said it best at the Correspondents' Dinner when he told * to his face, "When disaster strikes your administration can be counted on to act quickly to provide the most powerful photo op possible." (paraphrase)
