Lieberman declines to rule out Shays call for troop withdrawal

(Washington-AP, Aug. 25, 2006 6:38 PM) _ Senator Joe Lieberman said today he may consider a timeline for troop withdrawals from Iraq.

The three-term Democrat is waging an independent campaign for re-election that is seen nationally as a referendum on the Iraq war.

The proposal was floated by Republican Congressman Chris Shays, who also faces a tough re-election battle against an anti-war candidate. Shays has long been a supporter of the war and previously has opposed withdrawal timetables.

Shays proposed a timeline Thursday on a telephone conference call from London with reporters following his 14th visit to Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Chris made 13 trips over there and came back with rosy scenarios each time but now that he is battling for his political life and seeing how Lamont beat Liberman Chris decides now after his 14th visit, things are as cheech and chong said, "things are tough all over".
