Ga. Family Of Beheaded Contractor Sues Syria
(ATLANTA) -- The widow and daughter of Jack Hensley, who was taken hostage and beheaded while working as a contractor in Iraq two years ago, filed a federal lawsuit today against Syria.

The family members claim Syria supported the group who murdered him.

Marietta attorney John Salter, who is representing Hensley's widow Pati Hensley and their teenage daughter, Sara, says the lawsuit is a step the family can take to deter states that sponsor terrorists.

The plaintiffs also include Francis Gates of Michigan and Holly Pettis, now living in Canada.

They are the mother and sister, respectively of Eugene "Jack" Armstrong, another civilian contractor who was taken hostage and slain along with Hensley.

4. like the Syrian government would pay up anyway
and suing for 'hundreds of millions??' is that $100 million or $950 million? lot of wiggle room between those two numbers (not that it matters)...

they should have asked for zillions for the strongest dramatic effect...

and what company did they work for? funny how that was omitted

12. The Libyan government eventually paid up when it was sued
It took a while, of course.

I don't think it matters what company the guy was working for, btw. Chopping off someone's head is pure evil regardless of what it says on their employee badge.

Peace.

25. What does that have to do with Henley's death?
He was a civilian working for an M.E.-owned firm doing civil engineering projects.

Read up on him, we can hate phosphorous without hating Henley. We might even be able to hate kidnappers who murder their victims with a butcher's knife. Just sayin'...

Peace.

living in the Middle East. They were civilians also.

7. the whole thing operates on an assumption
that syria supported that particular group and that it could be proven in court.

"the lawsuit is based on the attorneys' investigations that show Syria was responsible for supporting and harboring the group that killed Hensley in September 2004."

did they go to iraq to "investigate"? any other info at all about these "investigations"?

for the record here is who the guy worked for

"worked for a United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based building company GSCS Gulf which has contracts with US army bases."

10. What's
Wrong with being a mercenary? We're all mercenaries....if we want to pay the mortgage and eat.

Unless of course, you're suggesting they're hired killers?

20. It rather depends on your own moral stance.
If you get paid as a civilian to kill people in another country, it's pretty cut and dried, you're
a mercenary. But if you get paid to directly (or even indirectly) support the people who kill people
in another country, maybe you can manufacture a little bit of wiggle room there. It might impress
some people but it doesn't cut any ice with me.

How is working on a civilian reconstruction project "supporting the people who kill people in another country"? Specifically, which killers was he supporting?

17. He was a small time war profiteer
no different from the German businessmen that profited running businesses in Nazi occupied Europe. I am sorry the guy is dead, and feel sorry for his family, but he knew what he was getting into when he decided to go to Iraq.

He took a risk, and he lost!

21. You're mistaken
He was employed by Gulf Supplies and Commercial Services, a Middle Eastern firm, and was working on civilian reconstruction projects, according to mainstream news reports.

Kenneth Bigley, a British engineer, was captured and killed along with Hensley. The videotaped pleas from both men's families for their release are heart-rending.

Here's a video that's less heart-rending. My own reaction is pure pornographic disgust. What's yours?

We can hate on the war without hating on its victims, don't you think?

Peace.

14. Fucken rightwinger family!
It was Al-Qaeda in Iraq which beheaded the mercenary Jack Hensley, and Syria had nothing to do with it. If anyone should be sued is Bush for putting the poor Mister Hensley in the middle of an occupied country.
