El Salvador to move embassy to Tel Aviv
El Salvador to move embassy to Tel Aviv

El Salvador announced on Friday that it would relocate its embassy in Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv.

The Central American country became the only country in the world with an embassy in Israel's capital on August 16, when Costa Rica announced it was moving its embassy to Tel Aviv.

El Salvador established its embassy in Jerusalem in 1984. Costa Rica moved its embassy to Jerusalem in 1982 under then-president Luis Alberto Monge, leading the nations of the Arab League to break off relations with Costa Rica.

1. Some important facts...
in the story:

El Salvador's foreign ministry issued a statement saying that the decision was made in light of the present situation in the Middle East.

Israel annexed eastern Jerusalem after capturing it from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War and claims all of the city as its capital. The Palestinians want to establish their capital in the eastern sector of the city. Most countries don't recognize the annexation of east Jerusalem.

2. Even the US embassy is in Tel Aviv

However, Senator Lieberman strongly supports moving the embassy to Jereusalem

desafortunadamente, most people do not understand the ramifications of actually moving the embassy to Jereusalem - it would be a huge gamble with American foreign policy.

I do not know of any other promimnent politicians that actually endorses the idea - if you have any names, I would like to know.
