Flags get classroom green light - Lakewood CO

Geography teacher Eric Hamlin and his flags are welcome to return to Carmody Middle School in Lakewood today.

But Hamlin, who was suspended with pay Wednesday in a dispute over the display of three foreign flags in his classroom, is not sure he wants to go back.

Hamlin said he's worried his presence will be viewed as divisive by other workers, some of whom resent the media coverage he brought on Carmody.

Jefferson County school officials Thursday resolved the flag issue in Hamlin's favor.

3. That principal should be disciplined. He should have not taken it
upon himself to interpret state law. That's why the school system has a lawyer. As it is he may have bought the school system an expensive settlement with the teacher.

5. The sad thing is this stupid "the curriculum didn't support it" part.
Hello. Geography involves ALL countries, not just the Country of the Week. Stupid, narrow interpretation that holds that unless a country has a specific relevance to the US, why bother knowing about it? Why teach geography at all with that attitude.

6. Dear God, like Chinam UN, and Mexico are not relevent to the US
Our biggest trading partner, the forum by which nations resolve conflicts, and our second-largest oil supplier..., nope, not relevent to the US. If China and Mexico dropped of the face of the earth, we woudn't even notice. Not one bit.

they had just gotten around to reporting that this teacher had been suspended with pay for the flag violation. Not bad. Only a day behind.

8. Thats what I would do.
If my boss pulled a stunt like that, I wouldn't go back either. I hope Hamlin finds a place to work where they appreciate his efforts.

9. Uh, the teacher did not bring the media attention to Carmody.
The effed up decision to escort him from the building and suspend him brought the media attention.

10. I do have to take the teacher to task!
After all he did not bring all this bad publicity on the school or the district. The moronic addle-pated caca-head (pun intended :) ) PRINCIPAL DID!
