Russia says no need to discuss Iran sanctions
Russia says no need to discuss Iran sanctions 18 minutes ago

MOSCOW (Reuters) - International concerns over Iran's nuclear programme do not warrant any discussion at the moment of sanctions against Tehran, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Friday.

"I know of no instances in world practice and previous experience in which sanctions have achieved their aim and proved effective," Ivanov, shown on NTV television, told reporters in Russia's far east.

"Moreover, I believe that the question is not so serious at the moment for the U.N. Security Council or the group of six to consider any introduction of sanctions. Russia stands for further political and diplomatic efforts to settle the issue."

Iran offered on Tuesday to start serious talks over its nuclear programme but there was no sign it had agreed to a U.N. Security Council demand that it freeze uranium enrichment by August 31 or face the prospect of sanctions.

4. Re: Yes
Yes, stomping up and down. What inspiring imagery and probably the real McCoy, too. He'd better not break an ankle.

Most frustrating to Israel Sanction Veto Bypass Johnny is, of course, Russia being completely right about urgency on Iran. It really ties down the boys in Crawford with the need to whip up a whole spankin' new big gigantic reason to blame Iran for something really really bad like another ... 9/11.

They'd rather shoot quail, drink beer and watch baseball.

The 'build-up' to confront Iran is entirely made of hot air, meant to sell bombs and clean-up operation services for Team Desert Bush and to please the Likud (and Israeli warhawks of every other stripe).

Sit on it, Johhny.

10. Ha Ha. It's been many decades since I read that story.
The devil has told you that! The devil has told you that, cried the little man, and in his anger he plunged his right foot so deep into the earth that his whole leg went in, and then in rage he pulled at his left leg so hard with both hands that he tore himself in two.

2. But of course.....
Let's see, there really are no good options in this mix to start with and now we add in the Russian factor of sales to Iran and their desire to not see U.S. forces attacking someone in the neighborhood next to them. Makes a very bad situation even more complex, but that is what * really is so good at doing....

5. Well first, he will throw a fit and stomp his feet.
After that who knows but I'm not sure I want to find out.

At any rate, this is what we have been working up to for some time and now it looks like we are getting close to show time.

8. He can start a pre=emptive war on Iran with no backing from his
allies, the Congress or the UN.
He keeps ramping up his imperial power gig and I see nothing that has made him back down.

9. And failure doesn't seem to be a problem for him, either.
Which is to say, he fails at everything, but still gets his way.
