GOP Dips in Religion Poll
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 5:17 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of people who consider the Republican Party friendly to religion has dipped below half in the last year, with declines among white evangelicals and white Catholics.

But the GOP remains far more closely tied to religion than the Democratic Party.

The number of people who consider the GOP friendly to religion dropped from 55 percent to 47 percent -- with a 14-point drop among white evangelical conservatives and an 11-point drop among white Catholics, according to the poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

1. I heard about a report today that somelarge group of
evangelicals has broken with Shrub! I'm very glad to hear that these folks seem now to recognize that Shrub isn't what he bretends to be!

I'm a white Catholic, but I never supported Shrub, so I guess I don't count.

4. Because they are the LARGEST GROUP!
There are millions of Evangelicals, and althoughother religionsare also large groups of people, they aren't nearly as large as the Evans.

I think we also need to understand that Evangelicalsare a very active group, and if you can get them energized, they'll get out there and fight and support you!

Unfortunately it doesn't break it into Evangelical and Mainline but if you know the difference it helps a bit I think.
(btw: This, along with the "Religious Tolerance" site above, are two of the most interesting religious info sites I've found online.)

10. It's Not That Nice.

I don't think they broke up with him because they've seen the light. It's probably because he did or said some things that they don't consider "conservative" enough for them. These evangelical types have wet dreams about ultra-rightwing peeps like Gary Bauer being their man (at least back in pre-election 2000, anyway. I don't know who their main man is now, because I haven't spoken to these nuts in a long time). They are REALLY FAR RIGHT and moderate Republicans (say a guy like Arnold the current CA guv) are not well liked by them at all.

3. Is that because they won't outlaw abortion already?
Or because they failed to amend the constitution to make gay marriage illegal, or what?
