Lieberman on Newt: "He Doesn't Vote Here"

U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman said at a reelection campaign stop in New Haven Tuesday that he neither "accepts" nor "regrets" an endorsement from prominent right-wing Republican Newt Gingrich, a show of support that deviates from the campaign theme that the three-term incumbent remains a "devoted Democrat" even as he runs against the party on the "Connecticut for Lieberman" line.

Gingrich, the former Congressman from Georgia who engineered conservative Republicans' House takeover in the 1994 elections and authored the "Contract with America," endorsed Lieberman's third-party bid. The endorsement came last week as Lieberman made an effort in public appearances to characterize himself as an opponent of the Republican White House's conservative agenda.

"I'm not going to accept or regret" Gingrich's backing, Lieberman said in comments to reporters as he left an upbeat union campaign rally on New Haven's Wall Street Tuesday. "Look, he doesn't vote here. I'm looking for the support of Democrats, Republicans, independents, in Connecticut."

"It wasn't my choice not to win the Connecticut primary," Lieberman continued. "A simple twist of fate has" led to his third-party candidacy. He said that candidacy "has allowed me to be what I've always been -- a Democrat who is anxious to work across party lines."

5. He seems to be Wolf Blitzer's daily guest
as he was today hinting that Lamont supporters would lead to Al-Qaeda taking over in Iraq.

4. ahhh...the audicity of the man never ceases...
...to amaze. He declines to "accept or regret" Newt's blown kiss, but ever-so-carefully says nothing about rejecting it. It wasn't his "choice to not win" the primary...when in fact it was; it was his choice to represent his constituancy and be heedful of its wishes, but nooooooo....and it was merely "a simple twist of fate" (WTF? he's channeling Dylan now?) that he's a third party candidate...yeah, that and a month long, big-buck and oh, so sub-rosa petition drive to get him on the ballot 'just in case'...tell me the M$M and CT media didn't know about that long before Joe's staff sent out the fax.

6. Lieberman's next gig -- cereal commercials
You know that incredibly stupid commercial for breakfast cereal? The one where the guy's at his desk chowing down on a big bowl of whatever it is and his boss comes up to tell him he's fired? The guy can't hear a thing because the cereal's too crunchy, so he just sits there smiling uncomprehendingly at his boss.

I think Joe should do a commercial for that cereal company.

7. "He doesn't vote here...."
That's rich. People who DO vote there, voted him out, so he is completely disregarding them, and running in a different Party.

Is this guy delusional or just arrogant aas hell? I can't decide.

8. errm... a twist of fate, or a g*ddamned VOTE? what an idiot.
somebody talk to this guy and tell him what's going to happen to him if he keeps on with this bullcrap. we have to get just as tough with our guys as the thugs are with theirs. they're constantly bowing out for the good of the party. the thugs are proving that we're unable to work as a team.
