Conservatives try to curtail hotel porn
NEW YORK - Pornographic movies now seem nearly as pervasive in America's hotel rooms as tiny shampoo bottles, and the lodging industry shows little concern as conservative activists rev up a protest campaign aimed at triggering a federal crackdown.

A coalition of 13 conservative groups — including the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America — took out full-page ads in some editions of USA Today earlier this month urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate whether some of the pay-per-view movies widely available in hotels violate federal and state obscenity laws.

The coalition also is trying to draw attention to CleanHotels.com, a directory of hotels and motels nationwide that pledge to exclude adult offerings from their in-room entertainment service.

Though porn is now cheaply and readily accessible on the Internet, and through many other outlets, the activists chose to target the hotel industry in part because of the well-known brands of corporations that cater to family vacationers as well as business travelers.

76. Seriously, is there actual "porn" in hotel rooms...
or is it the softcore boobie movies like on Cinemax?

There is a difference. I can understand not wanting actual porn.

I have been in hotels that offer the Playboy channel, and I remember once seeing that they do have a friday night "feature" sort of thing with actual porn showing insertion, but usually Playboy is pretty tame boobies and lingerie sort of stuff.

Is this what they're talking about?

3. Marriott
Marriott charges about $10.99 to $14.99 for their movies (including porn.) Just imagine the kind of revenue that they generate nationally from that? Porn movies probably represents at least half to two-thirds of all the movie rentals. Don't tell me the Joe average business traveling stiff is paying $14.99 for Cars or The Devil Wears Prada.

12. Heh. Fight the good fight, you prims!
I want to see them soak lots and lots of time and money into this pressing issue of national concern.

Since the front desk likes to charge a dollar for a phone call and fifteen bucks for an hour of Nintendo, I can only imagine what they rake in on the porno films (and I'll bet it's soft-core, too).

Yeah, the hotels will walk away from all that cash just as quickly as they'll start paying someone to keep the rooms stocked with Bibles.

Even better, these people have identified themselves as a demographic which is less profitable to the hotels because they pretend they won't want to watch porno--and they're probably the same jerks who dispute the charges at checkout because their porno was spooled up "by accident."

It's a win-win for the hotels. They get free advertising, and they also get respite from cheap hypocrites. What's not to like?

Good god . . . get a life! The stuff is so tame, even if a kid DID happen to "accidentally" see it, he still wouldn't know anything about the birds and the bees.

If parents would just be responsible and block the channel (which is easy to do - just follow the directions on the card in the room), this wouldn't even be an issue.

18. Here's the kicker, as discussed on the Ed Schultz show with guest host
Jay Marvin ...

Newscorp owns many of the "media" groups which produce the porn - and donates heavily to Repuke candidates ... Newscorp is FAUX ...

Hotel industry also donates heavily Repuke ...

So, will the "social conservatives" put their money where their mouths are, so to speak, and go against the candidates who lap up the cash from these companies putting out the porn? Nahhhhhh ...

55. Here's an even bigger kicker
Apparently, one of the leaders of one of these 13 "conservative" groups became active in this because he was "once addicted to porn"!

There is absolutely nothing worse - there is no one more obsessive - there is no one more retractable than an ex-addict.

Perhaps the worst are ex-smokers. The "ex" anythings seem to think that everyone is as weak as they are, the "addiction" caused them harm, and they will go crazy trying to stop other people.

Problem is that most, whether addicted to porn, nicotine, alcohol, or whatever else they claim has ruined their lives...are just a hotel stay, a convenience store, or a keg away from "jerking their peckers raw".

As our pretzledent so greatly demonstrates..."Once and addict, always an addict".

50. You can turn off the porn option in your room, right?
Or have the front desk disable it from the lobby for your. So.... what's the problem? If you're worried about your teenager sneaking some porn (which, incidently, shows up on the billing) while you're at the beach or someting, call the front desk and have them turn it off.

It's called parenting, dammit. Stop spending so much time manages other people's lives and start managing your own.

70. Who said there was a problem?
It's called free choice. And if a bunch of fundies want to have hotels that cater to them, isn't that their choice also? I do have a problem with them pressuring other hotels, but if they want to put together a directory of "Christian-friendly" hotels, who are we to say no?

71. It's a manufactured problem so that culture nazis can beat their chests
To stay in the spotlight and gain political advantage, you have to have a problem to scream about.

I certainly don't think it's a problem. A significant portion of my hard drive space contains such items as to cause the chest-beaters to fly into a frothing rage!

If a fundie family feels so much threat from porn that they want to lock it out of THEIR room during the nights that THEY stay there, then just fine and dandy. But give me access to mine porn!

What's really nauseating is that they are so hypocritical about porn; I would bet big $$ that most of them are obsessed with sex & porn (think about that reptile, Jimmy Swaggart). I'm certainly not saying that sex & porn are bad; I'm just saying that the people who are bitching about it the loudest are more than likely beating off while looking at it every night. . . .

I don't think the government should be telling hotels how to do business, though.

Man, all the hooker motels in Detroit would be out of business. Their ads in the phone book always specifically mention "adult movies". I'm not sure their bankruptcy would be a bad thing, however.

"Porn Again" Christianity

In another stunning display of heretical hypocrisy, a recent poll taken by the self-proclaimed "World's most Christian website", Christianet.com, found that a majority of Christian men, 50%, are addicted to pornography! Additionally, the poll also reported that 20% of Christian women are addicted to sneaking a peek at others "doing it". Refreshing the reader's memory, these "porn again" Christians belong to the same group of revisionists that fervently lined up and espoused former Attorney General, John Ashcroft's "Crusade against Porn" and stridently called for former President, Bill Clinton's impeachment for a minor infidelity while residing in the White House

67. Conservatives NEED porn
poor things.
The rest of us can find the balance between freedom and obscenity.

72. Google the famous Provo, UT case a few years ago...
As I remember...

On a slow day in Provo, the City Attorney decided to make some headlines by busting a local video shop. This was a neighborhood shop which mainly dealt in your standard video rentals. But it had a small porn section, completely hidden and not accessible to minors, etc.

At trial, the defense attorney produced two interesting sets of records: the number of Gawd-fearing Provokians who had rented porn from the store, and the number of pay-per-view porn rentals from every hotel in Provo.

It took the jury about 15 minutes to come back with a unanimous verdict of "Not Guilty."

73. Survey: Churchgoing Women also Struggle with Porn Addiction
snip==
According to a poll by ChristiaNet.com and Second Glance Ministries, half of all Christian men are addicted to pornography. While the statistics for men are nothing new, the poll found 20 percent of all Christian women to be addicts to pornography.

Additional findings showed 60 percent of the women respondents admitted to having significant struggles with lust, 40 percent admitted to being involved in sexual sin in the past year, and 20 percent of the church-going female participants struggled with looking at pornography on an ongoing basis.

http://www.christianpost.com/article/20060810/23609.htm

Guilt fostered by twisted interpretations of religion and subsequent repression of natural, healthy sexual inclinations turns conservatives into closet pervert freaks.

This is why an inordinately large number of conservatives end up as pedophiles and rapists.

This drive to eliminate porn from motels is just another ineffective way for conservatives to try to ease their own consciences from the extreme guilt caused by the sick twisted sexual perversions that live there.

74. Okay. Then I want the damn Gideon Bibles gone.
These people really need to go off in search of a life. It's not as if the hotel automatically plays porn on the television. First, you've got to turn on the television. Then you have to select the porn movie. Then you have to pay for the porn movie. I guess they could be feeding the hungry or housing the homeless, but what the hell. Investigating pornography in hotel rooms must be a whole lot more fun.
