Harris loses another staffer

U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris has lost another key staffer in the wake of a disastrous political rally last week.

Rhyan Metzler, who had been Harris' political director, is no longer with the campaign, according to Harris spokeswoman Jennifer Marks. Metzler is being blamed for embarrassing comments Harris made after a rally at Orlando Executive Airport.

Only 40 people showed up for the event, and Harris blamed the paltry turnout in part on a last-minute location change. She said a tree fell on the hangar that the rally was scheduled to be in, forcing her campaign to switch to another hangar.

Airport officials, however, said no trees had fallen and that Harris was in the hangar her campaign had originally booked.

I can't even imagine what it would feel like to be working for the Harris campaign right now. The stench of death and the weird bass line of completely nuts must pervade the HQ. And with Harris doing her best imitation of Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard, it's wonder anybody is still there.

Oh Katherine, my Katherine! You know that God never burdens us with more than we can carry (being all-wise and omniscient certain has its perks). And for a lesser servant of the Lord, like say Jerry Falwell, what has been heaped on your shoulders would surely crush a poor beleaguered soul.

But not you, Katherine. No, not you at all. Hang in there, Mrs. Harris. Keep fighting. Oh, the reward will be so much the sweeter when you have run the race and claimed the prize. Surely goodness and mercy, as close or closer to you than Moxie and Spunk, are shadowing your stylish heels in their Manolo Blahniks. And you will indeed dwell in the House of the Lord, or the United States Senate, forever.

Spend more. Campaign harder. It's all within your grasp. Do not mock God by being discouraged or disheartened, for surely the Holy One of Israel (no, no, not Joe Lieberman, God) will bear you safely over every stumbling block and obstacle.

Second, if there were a tree close by it must have been HUGE because most hangars are pretty high structures unless it is a small T-Hangar. But if that were the case she would only fit about 15 people in it. Of course, that is about the amount of people who will vote for her anyway.

...sight of the forest was lost. First, Metzler is more than Kate's "political director" (in another thread, he is "identified" in the one, posted newspaper story link merely as an "aide); his day job is North Central Florida Field Director for the Fla. GOP., an upper-tier, inner-sanctum type (with a listing on the title page of the official website). The significance of this is probably lost on non-Floridians, but i suspect the locals might find it more interesting...especially as the state GOP kissed Kate off last May.

The other thing is, there are two other GOP's on the ballot for the 9/12 primary, and if either of them wins, don't be surprised if Florida suddenly becomes "competitive". Enjoy the humor while it lasts.
