Reuters: North Korea threatens attack due to war drills
North Korea threatens attack due to war drills

Reuters
Tuesday, August 22, 2006; 12:53 AM

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said it was considering a pre-emptive attack
to counter a U.S.-South Korean joint military training drill that Pyongyang
sees as a "war action," its official media reported on Tuesday.

In its official media, North Korea said the drills were "an undisguised
military threat and blackmail against the DPRK (North Korea) and a war action."

The drills were a violation of the truce that ended the 1950-1953 Korean War,
it said.

"The Korean Peoples' Army side, therefore, reserves the right to undertake a
pre-emptive action for self-defense against the enemy at a crucial time it deems
necessary to defend itself," the North's KCNA news agency cited an army
spokesman as saying.

who can't stand being out of the news. Hez/Hams vs Israel, supposed terra plot avoided, Lamont vs Lieberman, and a freak who claims he killed J. Ramsey. If bush wanted a war with NK, all he would have to do is cut Kims cable off.

6. Kim doesn't realize that he's dealing with a bunch of sick bastards who
are so desperate to nuke somebody that he'd better not give them an excuse. In fact, it would almost be reasonable to nuke NK with this guy threatening like he is.

It's the people who would suffer, or course. But under this guy, they already are.

10. They do this every year.
Every year, there are joint readiness exercises here in South Korea called FOAL/Eagle or some such nonsense. And every year, the Norh Korean PR machine cranks out the same complaints.
Nothing to see here, they're just trying to keep in the spotlight a little longer to get some more economic aid from the South.

13. If North Korea were to attack...when do you think they would have?
When they weren't going through the grip of a ravaging famine, had the full support of China and the Soviet Bloc and weren't reliant on any foreign aid?

or

When they have a million man starving army, a few warheads that can maybe hit Alaska and no international support?
Everyone knows that they have a shitload of artillery pointed here at Seoul, and a whole bunch more pointed at Tokyo. But that's their last card. That's the one they play if anyone attacks them.

Also, please note that the Korean War has not officially ended. It's in a long-ass ceasefire.

the PNAC/hard-liners in the South Korean military on the other hand...what a bunch of whack-jobs!!
