CNN: Opposition to Iraq War at all time high
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/21/iraq.poll/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Opposition among Americans to the war in Iraq has reached a new high, with only about a third of respondents saying they favor it, according to a poll released Monday.

Just 35 percent of 1,033 adults polled say they favor the war in Iraq; 61 percent say they oppose it -- the highest opposition noted in any CNN poll since the conflict began more than three years ago.

A bare majority (51 percent) say they see Bush as a strong leader, but on most other attributes he gets negative marks. (Complete poll results -- PDF)

Most Americans (54 percent) don't consider him honest, most (54 percent) don't think he shares their values and most (58 percent) say he does not inspire confidence.

2. These are the kind of numbers that don't turn around
Approval ratings can flip and flop, because approval is a very subjective term that can mean as little as "if he was on fire, I WOULD cross the road to piss on him." The others are pretty specific and generally mean the person's mind is made up.

20. The percentage of people in favor of this war...
...is very close to the percentage of people who still support Bush. These are the hardcore people who have their heads up their asses and will never see the truth. I'd expect these percentages to remain relatively static in the near future.

3. None of that shit makes any sense. 51% say he's a strong leader but
54% day he's not honest? WFT is that? 58% say he doesn't inspire confidence but 51% think he's a strong leader? How can you be a strong leader and a liar that no one most people don't have any faith in??????

Boggles the mind.

5. I thought that was odd too
Makes me wonder how they phrased the question. "Strong" as in "good" or "strong" as in "stubborn/head like a rock"? If there was any "hazy phrasing", some folks opposed to him could have ended up saying they thought he was "resolute" and then it got translated into "strong".

I feel like I'm reaching, though. I'd prefer to say people are indecisive and stupid.

Bitter? Who, me?

26. Yeah, like I remarked
in another thread:

"58 % say he does not inspire confidence, but 51% say he's a strong leader?? How can a strong leader not be expected to inspire confidence? I would've thought that would be the top criteria for strong leadership...Go figure!" Who the hell are the goobers responding to the poll with such glaring inconsistencies & logical lapses?

There is some good news here, but the 42% approval is a little high for my taste.

I don't believe it's that high. More likely that number is at about 40%.

10. The biggest fucking blunder of all time
Good to see that most people are finally getting it. Of course, the numbers were even more in Junior's favor when he made the decision to pull the trigger so I can't say I'm impressed with the wisdom of the American people.

the invasion if Iraq to 9/11. I heard someone being interviewed today who said his only objection was that we should have gone after Iran first! What if Bush had treated 9/11 as a criminal matter instead of dragging us into war in Afghanistan and Iraq?

31. The WH
could continually manufacture polls showing Bush's approval rating at 100% and the media would be incredulous at what a strong and popular leader we have, and would criticize as unpatriotic and "liberal" any question as to the polls' authenticity. Kind of like those "erroneous" exit polls in Ohio.

23. What blows my mind.....
...is that our (ewwww)... THE Chimp-in-Chump is not only "not following the polls" (as he has readily done in the past, when he wants Congress to follow him blindly), and leaving it up to the next president (so the failure isn't smeared on him), but the fact is that most of America is seeing something he can't see even with strong eyeglasses: that Iraq is a complete and total failure.

He's really asking for an impeachment, he really is.....

We need to stop killing innocent people there in Iraq. Imagine how the healthcare in this country would be if we could just funnel all that "war machine" money to it. <sigh> maybe after * is out of office.

29. strutting and posing and talkin' tuff

= 'strong leadership ' w/ those w/ schoolyard mentalities.

they don't mind being lied to; they figure if a ' strong leader ' does it, it must be right and for their own good.

I am married to one of *'s base and his eyes glaze over and the shutters come down every time i bring u one of *'s lies. You can see physical evidence of the defenses coming up! It's like he's defending one of his kids.
