Bush: Leaving Iraq now would be a 'disaster' (CNN)
War 'straining the psyche of our country,' he says

Monday, August 21, 2006; Posted: 11:01 a.m. EDT (15:01 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Monday said there would be no quick U.S. exit from Iraq despite his concerns over talk of civil war in the country and the effect the war is having in American society.

"If we ever give up the desire to help people who want to live in a free society, we will have lost our soul as a nation," Bush said.

"Sometimes I'm frustrated, rarely surprised," Bush said of events in Iraq. "Sometimes I'm happy."

I'm sad, I feel like crying. Sometimes when I'm happy, I feel like crying, too. So I think it is better to be happy. You get two emotions for the price of one."

Why shouldn't the Village Idiot be happy all the time? He's always got someone nearby to make up a fabulous story about anything that might make him sad.

33. Um and it hasn't been a disaster being there?
Bush thinks if we "stay the course" and keep doing the same thing that eventually we will get different results. How many people will have to die before Bush and the Republicans swallow their pride and admit that this was a bad idea?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. ---Benjamin Franklin

35. "War is not a time of joy," he said. PROFOUND

....Bush said he was frustrated by the war at times.

"War is not a time of joy," he said. "These are challenging times, and they're difficult times, and they're straining the psyche of our country. I understand that. You know, nobody likes to see innocent people die. Nobody wants to turn on their TV on a daily basis and see havoc wrought by terrorists."

But Bush said he agreed with Gen. John Abizaid, the top U.S. commander in the Middle East, that if "we leave before the mission is done, the terrorists will follow us here." A failed Iraq would provide a safe haven for terrorists and extremists and give them revenue from oil sales, Bush said.

In response, Democrats said it was time for a new direction and Bush should begin redeploying troops this year.

"Our soldiers in Iraq should transition to a more limited mission focused on counterterrorism, force protection of U.S. personnel and training and logistical support of Iraqi security forces," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said.

39. Bush's Message to America
Washington - pResident Bush spoke to the American people about Iraq today, delivering an important message. "Screw you all, you're stuck with it and there's nothing you can do about it." said the pResident in one of his more candid moments. "If we leave it could turn into a disaster, can you imagine what Iraq would look like if it were a disaster? As long as I'm pResident things will continue just like they have been and you just better shut up and accept it. Look on the bright side, half of our army is NOT stuck in Iraq indefinitely, why don't you reporters ever talk about the good news?"

Whitewash Spokesman Orr Wellian clarified the pResident's comments, "What he meant to say was 'Nah nah nah nah nah' just in case you weren't really listening."

Vice pResident Doant Blemey reiterated the pResident's talking points, "Yeah, there were no WMD's, no ties to 9-11, we just did it because we wanted to and now it's a big mess, so take that Beeatch, there ain't nothing you can do about it."

The American people were also shocked to learn that the war in Iraq was a strain on their psyche, rather than on their security, pocketbooks, future and the soldiers lives.

In other news, Vietnam filed a formal complaint with the UN today about Iraq, claiming it threatened their position as the biggest mistake the US has ever made.

but forget the idea of allowing the Iraqis to establish their form of government or helping any wanting to live in a society free of invaders! perhaps blindly obeying our officeholders without question, and occupying Iraq without any exit strategy is the heart and soul of America :tinfoilhat:

Along with the things they've done. Why should this be any different? The reasoning is that they don't want to create a terrorist haven...well, they already have, in many other places besides Iraq. The asshole is just trying to save face, at the expense of more American and Iraqi lives.
