Health care providers object to tax cut
WASHINGTON - Here's one tax cut that business doesn't like.

Gary Bauer fears that his New Jersey nursing home could be devastated by a Bush administration proposal to halve the provider tax that states can charge patients.

It turns out that money collected through the tax is returned to nursing homes — along with matching federal dollars — in the form of higher reimbursements. The extra dollars mean additional staff and resources for patients.

By cutting in half the allowable tax, the administration estimates it will save $3.1 billion over five years.

3. Gary Bauer, the nursing home administrator ...
not to be confused with this guy who fronts a 'campaign for working families' 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization to pay himself a living-well salary while supporting political candidates who support legislation working against working familes (Santorum, Allen, Blackwell, the ususal) ... the Reaganite ...

7. And far too many of them exist...
To divest the inmat^H^H^H^H^Hpatients of their assets at the end of their lives. Homes, possessions, vehicles, land, bank accounts, investments, trusts...all are fair game.

9. A good nursing home is a godsend for an 88 year old woman who
who can't care for herself at home any longer because the voices tell her not to, and whose family consists of a couple of faraway nieces. She is in a religious-affiliated, nonprofit nursing home, and that is the best scenario she, as a low-income citizen, could have found herself in. They are wonderful there. White American notwithstanding.
