COLUMBUS, Ohio - A former aide to Gov. Bob Taft remains involved in high-profile Republican campaigns, even as others in the state GOP seek to distance themselves from the scandal in which he and the governor were convicted.
Brian Hicks, Taft's former chief of staff, is listed among hosts of an Aug. 25 fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce, arranged by supporters of the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University.

Friday marks one year since Hicks' former boss, Taft, was convicted after pleading no contest to ethics reporting violations, including failing to report gifts and golf outings from now-indicted rare coin dealer Tom Noe.
Records show Hicks, once dubbed Ohio's "most powerful unelected official," has given $1,000 to Pryce since he pleaded no contest last July and was convicted on an ethics law violation involving his reporting of a stay at Noe's Florida home.
