Bush is crap, says (Deputy PM) Prescott
Deputy PM criticises US handling of Middle East, condemning 'cowboy' President at private meeting

John Prescott has given vent to his private feelings about the Bush presidency, summing up George Bush's administration in a single word: crap.

The Deputy Prime Minister's condemnation of President Bush and his approach to the Middle East could cause a diplomatic row but it will please Labour MPs who are furious about Tony Blair's backing of the United States over the bombing of Lebanon.

The remark is said to have been made at a private meeting in Mr Prescott's Whitehall office on Tuesday with Muslim MPs and other Labour MPs with constituencies representing large Muslim communities. Muslim MPs wanted to press home their objections to British foreign policy and discuss ways of improving relations with the Muslim communities.

(snip)

Mr Prescott has been accused in the past of making his feelings known about the Republican administration in the White House. He became friendly with Al Gore, the unsuccessful Democrat presidential candidate in 2000, during the negotiations on the Kyoto treaty and allegedly told Mr Gore after his defeat that he was sorry he lost the race to Mr Bush.

20. AFAIK He is still Deputy Prime Minister.
So in essence when Blair is away, Prescott gets his say.

And for him to say (even if he denies it) Bush is crap is really what he is good at. He's bloody blunt and I kinda like him for it. From sound of things his electorate likes him too.

12. He'll be lucky if he doesn't lose his job like Jack Straw
It only takes a phone call from the WH, I hear.

Still, I admire anyone with the sack to practice unfashionable traditions. I believe this one used to be called "telling the truth".

13. BBC: Prescott denies calling Bush crap
Last Updated: Thursday, 17 August 2006, 11:04 GMT 12:04 UK

Prescott denies calling Bush crap

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has denied saying the Bush administration
had been "crap" on the Middle East road map - the plan for peace in the region.

Labour MP Harry Cohen said the remark came during a private meeting on Tuesday
with fellow Labour MPs.

Mr Cohen stressed the comment was about the specific road map policy rather
a general view of President George Bush.

Mr Prescott said in a statement it was an inaccurate report of a private
conversation "and it is not my view".

21. The Blair control bot strikes back!
Cant... be... seen... dissenting...

Problem is Prescott's Old Labour. You know, the kind that represents real working people, allied with Trades Unions. Not the Yuppie Labourites who if done right in Tory areas - stick a red rosette on them and they'd win...

Personally I'd have them with gold rosettes on but that is of course just my opinion. Better red than blue, but better gold.

14. crap?
If Prescott is so "straight talkin'" how come he didn't say anything to Blair (or resign) when the Neocons were trying to get the Brits on board with their vile plans to invade Iraq?

Why doesn't he do it now, if he thinks the Bush admin is so "crap"?

Just another career politician seduced by the trappings of power.

15. My fav reply of late: "Who's riding the Duh Train now?" from
Christopher Moore's book, A Dirty Job.
The book is hilarious.

So, too, are all these "revelations" lately about the Bush Admin.

19. Today's Headline: Labour agrees: Bush IS crap
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 06:30 PM by muriel_volestrangler

Ian Davidson Glasgow South West MP

"I think that John Prescott is to be commended for the quality of his political analysis. His comment on American policy is brief and accurate. Britain has got to ensure that it is no longer seen as simply being the glove puppet of the United States."

Glenda Jackson Hampstead and Highgate MP

"I entirely endorse his view. This is why Parliament should be recalled. This government is failing miserably as far as our approach towards the Middle East is concerned. We are simply... bag carriers for Bush and all his policies have been a disaster."

Peter Kilfoyle Liverpool Walton MP

"What he is reported to have said reflects the views of many people in the Labour Party. It may not go down well in international diplomacy... but in the Labour Party it will be welcomed as a rare flash of honesty from a senior member of the Government."

Ken Livingstone Mayor of London

"I have no idea what John Prescott did or did not say since it was a private conversation, but... the current US administration has been a disaster for the American people and has done untold damage not only to international relations but to the environment."
