HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Former Pittsburgh Steelers star Lynn Swann didn't put so much as a dent in Gov. Ed Rendell's lead among Pennsylvania voters over the past two months, despite his stepped-up campaign in the race for governor, a new poll released Wednesday shows.

Rendell led Swann 54 percent to 34 percent in the latest Quinnipiac University poll of registered voters, little change from a June poll that found the former Philadelphia mayor leading Swann 55 percent to 31 percent.

snip: Swann could get a lift Wednesday evening, when President Bush is scheduled to headline a fundraiser for the NFL Hall of Famer in Lancaster.

"Swann needs President Bush to help win back those Republicans who are backing Rendell," said Clay F. Richards, assistant director of Quinnipiac's polling institute. "Also, the president can help raise the kind of money Swann needs to take on a well-financed Democratic incumbent."

Kinda like the first few "workers that break from the union" ... get compensated well for breaking from the union ... after the union is officially killed, then everybody gets shit wages ... and the ones who got the big bucks are canned for "no cause" ...

4. This Guy Used To Be An Aspiring Game Show Host
He did a lot of run-thrus at this place I used to work -- never got hired though.

He's a kiss-ass and dumb as a suitcase of rocks, to use a Keith Olberman phrase!

5. Turns out that "idiot" trumps "steelers"
and just 'cause the idiot is black doesn't mean he gets the black vote.

My understanding is that Swann lost as soon as he opened his mouth in public, or at least that is what folks familiar with Swann and penn politics said here on DU would happen when the Swann story started.

I do appreciate the rethuglican thinking though: 'black steeler star, how could we lose'? It is vile on so many levels, and truly representative of the bankruptcy of their political world view.

6. I LOVED Swannie when he was a Steeler, but I wouldn't want him
as my Governor!

I lived in Pgh during the Steeler Dynasty, and it was GREAT!!! I moved 20 years ago and still wave my Terrible Towel during their games!!!!

Lynn, go back to coaching or something!

13. The Rethugs ran him to suppress the
vote in the 5 county Philly area so Santorum would have a shot in the Senate race. Nobody was going to beat Rendell here...He's not great on the national stage to say the least but he does great here. Peter Principled right to the Gov's mansion. and that's where it's gonna end except if he runs for Senate.

yeah, I could see those folks in between Philly and Pgh voting for a black guy. "Bad enough" they have to have a basically non-practicing Jew as governor, but no fricking way. It's like Alabama except worse b/c no one will address the issue/problem of racism in PA. Ever.

17. Swann is right in there with Schwarzenegger. Just a celeb who is
basically a right wing puppet. Oh but Swartzie cares about the environment but buys Hummers. No cognitive dissonance there, lol.
