House candidate wants pay cut for Congress

BY PAUL HAMMEL

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN - The Democratic candidate for Nebraska's 3rd District House seat has called for members of Congress to take a cut in pay.

Scott Kleeb said Tuesday that if elected, he would propose a pay cut of $1,700 - an amount he said is equal to the decline in median household income between 1999 and 2004.

Kleeb said the cut would demonstrate that Congress recognizes what's happening to constituents.

"If we're serious about economic growth, we need to tighten our belts a little bit, too," Kleeb said.

2. I'd ask if that's really possible...
But I'm afraid they'd prove it.

4. Actually I think there should be a pay increase.
However it should come with a complete ban on all gifts or services of any kind from any source, plus far stricter regulation of campaign funding including reinstitution of the fairness doctrine and public campaign financing.

As it is generally only the wealthy or the corrupt can afford to run and serve in congress.

5. How about he matches it to minimum wage-from the 60's
He'd have to cut that salary in half.

6. I'd be all for Congressional pay being linked to some formula
... that takes poverty and middle class income into account. Congress should fair no better than their constituents.
