Israel threatens to stop withdrawal
"Israel says it will stop pulling out of Southern Lebanon unless
Lebanese troops move there within days.

Israeli Army Chief of Staff Dan Halutz says the country could withdraw
its forces from Southern Lebanon within 10 days, but only if the
Lebanese Army deploys quickly within the area."

One problem facing the Lebanese Army of course is that the roads
to the south have been bombed into oblivion and have to be cleared
before the Lebanese Army can move.

How convenient.

1. Yeah...Makes for a good reason to continue bombing.
Oh...your Army wasn't moving fast enough. Nevermind the damn roads were destroyed and no one can get through, let alone the f-ing Army.:spank:

3. Actually the UN Peacekeepers are the Issue
- The IDF has said it will move out, within a week, once the Lebanese Army and the expanded UNIFIL troops are there to replace them

- The Lebanese army is not going to move in unless Hezbollah disarms or at least stands down. It wants UNIFIL in their first to pacify things too.

- Recent articles have stated its going to take the UN several months to get its act together and get troops in there. Right none of the nations that have said they might take part have committed a specific number of bodies. France, even though it will be leading them, is balking at the lack of clarity in the mandate. It is also refusing to disarm Hezbollah, saying that is a Lebanese problem.

- Hezbollah has stated it will not be disarmed at this time, that it is a subject for future secret negotiations.

I don't blame the French for the delaying tactics. This is going to blow up, and they do not want to be there and in charge when it does.

The bottom line is that the UN will once again not deliver what it promised. The ceasefire will hold until one side or the other decides its in their best interest for it to end.
- Israel says they can still strike Hezbollah resupply convoys coming in from Syria
- Hezbollah says its still open season on the IDF in Lebanon
- The kidnapped soliders are still missing

One or some combination of the above is all that is needed to start the bombs flying again. Furthermore, the IDF won't play nice as they did in the first round.

5. I tire of this "Hezbollah says it's still open season" part.
No. Hezbollah said that IDF soldiers are still game, but season is CLOSED until further notice from the top. I see a lot of people intentionally not wanting to internalize that, though...

6. "If the Lebanese Army does not move down within a number of days
to the south ... the way I see it, we must stop our withdrawal,"
(Dan Halutz) said."

This is clearly a reference only to Lebanese troops, not the UN
peacekeeping force.

10. Other sources, other data
http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.html?id=08a1c110-3afd-44c4-99fa-b151de804ed8

and

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1684376/posts which states
Israeli officials said the IDF would not complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon until the international force was deployed - even if it took months - to prevent a vacuum in Lebanon that could endanger Israeli civilians. An official in the Prime Minister's Office accused Annan of having an anti-Israel agenda.

There are also issues with getting UNIFIL upgraded

Similar words here http://www.israelnn.com/news.php3?id=110176

Throughout it all Kofi Annan is waffling on commitments in terms of disarming Hezbollah and beefing up UNIFIL. This is not a good thing. The French are also being cautious, not wanting to take the blame if it blows up again.

2. Do none of the world's political leaders have ANY honor?
Does any of them make deals, treaties, agreements or promises anymore with the actual intent on keeping their word??

7. Wasn't the deal that Israel
pulls out as the Lebanese/UNIFIL folk move in?

Ah, I see. You're complaining about Siniora. Well, get in line, you're not the first.

8. I'm complaining about the lot of them.
Everybody parses, prevaricates, hedges and double-deals, it seems. I'm just globally venting, probably has no place here.

Sigh...whatev.

11. Not Really
- The UN can't delvier what it promised in terms of a bigger and better peacekeeping force
- Hezbollah is refusing to disarm
- The Lebanese army is going no where until the prior two are achomlished
- The IDF is not going anywhere until the prior three are achomplished.

Israel believes it was promised a militia free zone where only UNIFIL and the Lebanese army were armed. It thats not going to happen, its not over yet.
