Australian synagogue vandalized

A synagogue on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia, was attacked for the second time in two weeks.

On Monday night, vandals hurled concrete blocks at the doors of the Parramatta synagogue.

Two weeks ago, a group of men described by witnesses as being of Middle Eastern appearance threw blocks at the compound, damaging Rabbi Yossi Wernick’s two cars and his residence, situated next to the synagogue.

The synagogue is isolated from the major part of the community in Sydney and is close to areas with a high Muslim population.

SWASTIKAS and the words "kill all Jews" have been daubed on the house of a Jewish doctor in Hampstead Garden Suburb.

Dr Justin Stebbing of Erskine Hill found the offensive graffiti when he returned to his home on Tuesday morning.

Swastikas had been painted on his scooter and car bonnet and the attackers had also scrawled other anti-Semitic slogans and the word "Allah" on the windows of his house.

"I felt violated," he said. "Just like I had been burgled. It's horrible. I don't even feel like going home any more. These people were not idiots - they knew exactly what they were doing."

I hope this story is not playing towards the hands of the diversionists, or used as a divide amongst those that supported the recent defeated immigration law of the Howard administration.

6. I know the publication well

They don't have an axe to grind; they don't editorialize. They really just serve as the AP of the Jewish world. There are right wing publications (The Jewish Press) and left wing counterparts (The Forward) that you have to read with a filter. JTA has been around for nearly a century and has a great history. A lot of highly regarded journalists like Daniel Schorr and Theodore White reported for them.
