Bush says U.S. will be fighting terrorists for years

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush cautioned Tuesday that the foiled plot in Britain to blow up jetliners over the Atlantic means the U.S. will be fighting terrorists for years to come.

"America is safer than it has been, yet it is not yet safe," Bush told reporters in an operations center at the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean, Va., just outside Washington.

...

Bush said that plot is indicative of the challenges that America faces from terrorists now and for years to come.

"I will assure the American people that we are doing everything in our power to protect you," Bush said.

10. Maybe
Doesn't change the fact that terrorism, whatever that means, has been around since politics began, and been used for the same amount of time to increase powers, legal or illegal. Who got to choose what were legal powers in the first place? Probably terrorists, depending on what side you found yourself on at the time.

32. Well they had to take over a land mass with people on it
as well as bring people from another just to get this thing started. So they gave themselves the legal right to make the rules.

13. Bullshit Bush.
"I will assure the American people that we are doing everything in our power to protect you," Bush said.

Oh really?

What about our wide open ports?

What about our military, that's stretched too thin and EXHAUSTED from the "war" in Iraq?

What about the selling off of critical American infrastructure, bit by bit to foreign governments?

What about selling weapons and nuclear technology to other countries? Just because they're a friend now, doesn't mean they will always be. (See history Shah of Iran, and Saddam Hussein in Iraq for details.)

You're an idiot, Bush. America is less safe today than ever before, because of your bungled foreign policies and irresponsible governing of the country.

And to top it all off, you're a liar, and all of America knows it except for the brain-dead Kool Aid addicts that believe everything you tell them.

to cut the funding for the very programs that would protect this country.

Please, this bastard doesn't care one whit.

edit: I take that back. He cares very much about what he and him family and friends can rake in loot and power-wise. It's the safety of the American people that he doesn't give a damn about. I said earlier, if he cared about the people, this country, he'd fire his administration and resign.

19. Close, but sadly, the USA will remain the #1 terrorist for decades . . .
.
.
.

PNACers will make sure of that

Considering that the USA has troops and bases in over 120 countries around the world

They got Al Qua-ida beat by a long shot

Over a million military personnel spread around the globe in over 600 bases

More nukes than any other country in the world, possibly more nukes than the rest of the world combined . . .

And certainly the most dangerous War-Machine ever to exist on this planet

Under the control of a madman . . . .

(sigh)

27. Meaningless, non-statement meant only to pander to the fearful
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 05:56 AM by Solly Mack
Terrorism has been around for years. It's not as if it's "new" - and the U.S. has been dealing with terrorism for years. The world has been dealing with terrorism for years.

The actions/policies of the Bush Regime have increased the likelihood of increased, future attacks on US soil, as well as increasing the chances of Americans living abroad being attacked.

Making America less safe than it was before Bush

However, America never has been immune to a terrorist attack. There's a difference between being immune from an attack and the probability of an attack being high or low. America's probability factor has changed as society has become more mobile(and hostilities more aggravated)....but it never was immune from attacks.

So Bush saying America will be dealing with terrorism for years to come is nothing more than stating the obvious and then portraying the obvious as some sort of new development that has never before been seen or dealt with...which is a lie...and by omitting his role in increasing the existing hostilities, Bush undermines America's safety even more.

It's a non-statement that plays well with those only listening at the surface...it's just one more Bush abuse of the truth in a long list of abuses...it's a sound bite to feed people.. to aid those who buy into the co-existing alternate reality created and maintained by the Bush Regime, allowing those people to believe that this is the way it has to be- so just accept it and everything they say

It's like saying "the poor will always be with us"

Well, yes, there will always be people who are poor compared to others...but it denies the fact that government's policies directly affect people being poor and keeping them poor. That government can create poverty and make it worse with their policies. That how poor people are labeled and scorned by society (government) plays into just how poverty is viewed and dealt with...

But making such comments allows members of the viewing audience to tell themselves that this is just how it is and we can't change it, so might as well accept it. And people will and do tell themselves that...

Statements such as these never address the real issues..making them meaningless statements

A more honest statement would be, "Brace yourself. Because we aren't going to work to make things better but we will use this time to advance our agenda and make it worse for you"

and then tell you...it's just how it is in this "post-911" reality we've manufactured
